  1. Dude being willing to dive spots will tell you more in 30 seconds than in years of fishing above the surface. Bass will usually hang around unless you get really close if you're sneaky. Ever wonder about that dock you throw at? That point? Take a roll over the side and see if you're wasting your time or not. There's a dock and a set back boathouse on a crystal clear river where I grew up that is probably a hundred yards from the main boat ramp. Everyone makes a couple casts at it and moves on. I dove it once and there was 10+ another that was maybe 7-8 and a couple other fatties just chilling under it. And they've all seen a million lures.
  2. Just because it looks good doesn't mean anything. There could be some underwater structure nearby that they relate to better. I've free dived around some fallen trees and docks I thought were bass magnets for sure and not seen the first fish on them and then 50 feet down the shoreline saw a 4ft stick laying on the bottom with three bass on it. They don't make sense sometimes
  3. Been doing some work with the Monka Crawler at night lately, this thing gets CRUSHED. Never seen a bait that fish attack as viciously as this. Mine is black with a red belly stripe.. My problem is this thing requires constant retuning. I'm talking after every fish I've got to futz with the tuning screws and do a test swim or two before getting back to it. Sometimes it goes out of tune just from hitting the water. Is this a problem endemic to all crawler baits?
  4. Thanks for this, I've got one if the FP crawlers and this will be a help for when it gets outta tune. These things have such a killer action! I'd kill to have one of his giant FG crawlers, those things look so sick.
  5. Don't think UV anything matters when there's no black light present.
  6. Calcutta 401 TE here, love it. They show up used in the 200 range. Last forever.
  7. Slammers vary a lot. I have one that is noticeably heavier than all my other ones and it has a longer bill. Will run 5-6 feet feet on a steady retrieve with 25lb mono. It's not marked as a deep crank model. I have another slammer that won't dive. At all. If you try to crank it faster than a wake it rolls over.
  8. All y'all that throw expensive ish where there are Pike and Muskies are nuts. LOL. I'd be throwing those with wire, might lose a few leader shy bites but screw it. I've lost prolly three 8" Hudds but never anything pricey. Now losing expensive rods and reel combos is my jam.
  9. I always found night fishing on a full moon to suck. Unless it was overcast. Pat Cullen of catching over a thousand bass over 10lbs fame wouldn't even bother to go out on a full, preferring the new.
  10. Shimano Curado 301E. I bought it new a year or two ago to fish glides with and never ended up fishing glides. LOL. Would be surprised if I fished it more than 10-15 times. Some rub marks on the side from my kayak. $150 shipped PayPal F&F or +3%. Or USPS MO
  11. Most people aren't trophy bass fisherman...
  12. I highly doubt 33% is accurate for just a regular bass fisherman in FL. For someone who's not afraid to fish live shiners, maybe. There are a lot of bass tournament PRO'S whose PB is not over 10. For just your average guy that Chuck and winds cranks and worms a 10 will be pure luck.
  13. I don't ever think I've ever even seen someone post a fish caught on a SK. Everyone just buys them and immediately converts them to a 250
  14. Florida, and alligators. Not fish LOL
  15. DEPS 250 shipped, Slammers both sold. Godzilla on hold.
  16. That's the one I have, has saved my ass numerous times
  17. Jumpin' Jesus, shoulda asked more money. DEPS is already SPF
  18. Hiro Godzilla, not sure what color but a slow sink. $120 shipped DEPS 250, new style in Rainbow Trout. $85 shipped SPF 9" Slammer in Hitch. $60 shipped 7" Slammer in Dark Rainbow. $40 shipped PM me here. No trades. Paypal +3% or USPS MO.
  19. Be a lot easier to just do a double Hudd rig with a two swivel setup. Or a swivel and a stainless ring.
  20. If the biggest thing you're gonna throw is 4oz and mostly treble baits at that I'd go with a Dobyn's 806. If you were mil Dobyns does a sweet discount for vets and AD guys. If you want something that will handle an even bigger range of baits the 867 will throw pretty much anything while still not feeling like a pool cue. For a reel I absolutely love my Shimano 401TE. You can pick them up used on Ebay pretty reasonable and probably come in around your budget.
  21. I kind of miss using my tube when I was stationed in a state that didn't have 10+ foot prehistoric dinosaurs swimming around. I used to not care but after some encounters that narrowly avoided me losing appendages I give them more space now.
  22. I've really been wanting to experiment with lead core trolling a Slammer or glide down deep... I bet it would slay in the right area. You could troll a DEPS 250 or whatever at 30+ feet. Also on the list is trolling swimbaits on planer boards along lily pad lines. Shiner guys have been using planer boards to troll shiners along weed/pad lines for years. Let's you run a shiner right on the weed line while keeping your boat 20 yards away and not spooking the fish.
