Thank you! Man it took me up until this fish to catch a smallie over 5lbs on anything, let alone a swimbait of any size! Such a good feeling when it all comes together. Who knows how long it'll be til the next big one but I'm gonna keep chuckin n winding for it! Go get that NH BIG!

I agree, protecting the fish (our #1 fishing buddies as catch and release guys) is a priority. I live in WA and we regularly have to fizz fish, smallmouth especially, and many times they have no eye bulge and little air bladder protrusion in the mouth, but chances are if your fish swam away they're OK, I have heard of guys not fizzing and as long as the fish wasn't out of the water for more than a few seconds to unhook it, they're generally fine. I guess there isn't a practical way to know for sure how the fish did, but my rule of thumb is fizz it if theres any question.

Same baits I mentioned, dark colors, if that doesn't work, then try the same baits in bright colors! Haha. All those baits displace a lot of water, meaning the kick of he tail will send lots of vibration/pulse through the water and fish will find them regardless of water clarity. You could use an underspin beast hook on the nates and WCZ baits to add some vibration and flash as well.
