The reason it is so flat is because all of my other more rounded once would not swim at all but it may be good to try and find a happy medium. The hardware is pretty open it just doesn’t look that way from the angle of the photo.

I have made about 8 rats over the course of last year and not one works.The one I am working on right now is working the best but not great. The back part moves great but the front moves very little. As well it is very unpredictable and will randomly blow out or stop moving.My next plan of action is to sand down the back joint to allow for more movement and to add a bigger lip but would like to hear other opinions. So I sounds like from what I am getting the lip is needed and I need to have more wood in the front vs back as well as try 2 screw eyes?

I have been trying to make rat drawings and baits for a while and nothing seems to work right. I have made 2 styles and both had the problem of the front moving and the soft plastic tail moving but the back not in the non-rounded one there was a lip but I tried to take it out but broke and in the other I made a lipped and non-lipped version. I don’t know what I am doing wrong. Any help welcome.

I would go with a dobyns fury 806. I went with the 795 first and found myself wishing I went with the 806 and wanting to use some slightly bigger lures. I personally fish both and mix the swimbait in like a would any other rod in my arsenal.Good luck!

This is not a swimbait making specific question but relates. I have just switched over to using a scroll saw and I can’t find a blade thick enough to fit my lip slot. I have been using a 1mm blade which is perfect in my jig saw before this.I have tried using a thicker blade after to widen it but it has not worked. Any ideas on how to get it to the correct width would help.

Make a small change to give it something similar but not drastically different. The fish most likely moved somewhere else to recover usually on a point or secondary point:)

If they have problems supplying product to japan and the USA then why would they add another market to screw the supply.There just is not enough supply for the demand

I don’t have access to a lead pot and have had a hard time finding an easy way to weight a bait. I have used bullet weights and pine car weights. They either take up to much room or are to hard to cut to size. It is the most difficult to keep consistent in resin baits. Any help welcome:)

I personally bed fish and I understand both sides to it. I believe if you are going to bed fish you need to do it the right way. Don’t take the fish out of the water for more than a minute and that is a little to much. Get a weight a few pictures and maybe a measurement. But get it back in the water as fast as possible where you caught it from. We all learn from experience I have definitely change the way I bed fish. One time years ago I caught a bedding fish 3 times in 24 hours and I am ashamed I ever did something like that but I have definitely changed the way I do things.

I have a 795 and decided to go with a 300 sized Cardiff. I then realized after using it for a while I should have gone with the 200 because it would have been a little more comfortable and would hold plenty of line:)

I also recommend getting an airbrush allows for great detail. I would recommend get a master airbrush and use it for a few months or until it breaks that way you can make mistakes with something that won’t break your wallet.After that I would get an iwata in what ever price range you have.I would also suggest going with envirotex I tried Devcon But it gave me lots of fish eye and ripples in my clear coat:) good luck

But what you’re forgetting is when you wait a week for it to get to you and then they deliver it to the wrong place and haven’t refunded you in a month:/

If you can get a lip from the builder or get one off lure parts online that is similar make sure the slot is fully cleared out of the old lip an epoxy in with 5 or 30 min epoxy:)
