Mnbassbuster002
I have a good friend that has been one for prob 8 years now. He is the type to crawl through the brush at 3a.m. to catch someone. Also on a side note. Poachers Caught by Tom Chapin is an excellent book. He was the game warden in my area and retired. He wrote this book telling some of his more interesting stories of catching the law breakers... my favorite is one where he takes a swim on walleye opener to catch a couple guys that just couldn't wait till it was time to start. Swam up to the boat and jumped in with them. I would have sh!t my pants seeing him come over the side of the boat.
Bikeandbass
I am not a warden but work with the state fisheries department and interact with them often. On the state level in New York there is a position called Environmental Conservation Officer which is the "warden" here and there is a test that is given every so often for this. ECO description - http://www.dec.ny.gov/about/746.html Watch this link or sign up for the emails to find out when the tests are. http://www.cs.ny.gov/examannouncements/types/oc/ Every state has their own list and or test. It is not given often but prepare well and take the test. This puts you on to a list for eligibility. When a position opens up and you are in the top 10% they will contact you. This whole process often takes years to come to fruition and it sucks that it takes so long but it is how these jobs work with there being so few of them. Good luck with your career goals, if you are diligent, and not too picky about what state and where you are, then you can find something. A word of advice to any young folk out there looking for a career.... stay up on your reading, writing, spelling, grammer, math, etc skills even when out of school, you will need it again! Tight lines!
