Been playing around with sbs on tough days and started to skip baits. Searched and found nothing here. Looking for info on baits and rigs. Just when u think u got it rght backlash ugh! Use braid? This is what I have learned on the water so far.

1. Baitsmith generation 1 sb trout is a beginner skippers dream. This bait like others then relied upon use of plastic inserts to keep baits running straight.

2. Real prey alewives skip great too but top hook model is better for that. I was about to pay up for old baitsmiths but rpjs changed my mind about paying up for a bait a generous su member comped me on a black market sale of other baits. Also I know I am going to lose some.

3. Utbers like the weedless hudd and maybe this bait is the end of the story.

Funny you bring this up today. I was tossing a 68 hudd today from an old bridge base down 15 feet to the top of the water and had to play around with getting it under trees. I was able to skip it pretty well, 8-10 feet or so, with the set up I had. Definitely something I am going to play around with some more.

Tactical Bassin went over the technique a while ago. I have not seen much on the topic since then. The technique is used for docks, bridges and shoreline. I would just make sure to just use soft plastic swimmers if anything, I have never gotten a single bite doing so. Maybe some one else who gets bit this way can chime in.
