CaliBassin
Last summer my family and I took several camping trips to lakes that had trout only. With hardly any trout fishing equipment I took some bass baits to try out. This is when I discovered a trout bait like no other... now all I ever bring trout fishing is a rip bait and a baitcaster. basskickinrednick, El_Weruso, Zigtherat and 7 others

Surprised you were able to get it to stay still, I normally have major problems with them flopping all over. lol Stevej89 and Fallof74 1

bigpoppabass
Real beauties there. I like trolling a small husky jerk, that seems to have triggering power for the bigger ones in my area. CaliBassin

surfk9
My sons & I discovered this same "trick" about 20 years ago....we have annual family camping trip in the Sierra's where we basically fished Worden's Rooster Tails....prior to one of these vacations i read an article in either Sports Afield or Field and Stream (probably 20+ yrs ago) about some "Bass Fishermen " showing up at a lake in Oregon notorious for huge brown trout...they were throwing big countdown rip baits....all the while being chided by the locals..."Their ain't no bass in these lakes" you won't be catching anything with that gear...lo and behold returning to the launch with fish over 10 lbs made their day & shocked the locals....told my sons about this, we down sized to the 21/2-4 inch Rapala countdowns (we were fishing small streams & lakes) ...lol we never looked backed....we caught rainbows & browns in the 15-20+ inch size in areas where previously with rooster tails our biggest fish were 12-14 inches...think outside the Box!!!...michel...Go Fish Slow rolling, bigpoppabass, ricardo and 3 others

hydrocephalic
@CaliBassin Wow! Way to think outside the box. What rip bait were ya using? I think I have just found a new technique to try for salmon and steelhead up here thanks to you. CaliBassin
CaliBassin
@hydrocephalic lucky craft lighting xr in aurora black is one of my favorites. hydrocephalic
CaliBassin
@hydrocephalic I think the key reason for my success with that bait is the flash it has. Any rip bait with lots of flash is killer for trout, something about it just drives them crazy. Also, I am positive this will work for salmon and steelhead as well. Not too much difference between the two. Good luck. hydrocephalic
