Leader Length ?

I’ve been seeing that some people run a mono or fluro leader of 20-30 lbs to their 65-80 lb braid. What length leader are you guys using?

7-10ft for me.

I rig mine different, I do mine like my surf striper set ups

50lb braid to a spro 130lb swivel, then 2' of 20-30lb mono or fluro, depending on bait/depth desired. 

leader is usually tied to a decoy clip or tied direct on some baits (soft baits mostly)

Very good topic. I use the length that I am comfortable having outside rod tip during a cast, usually 2-3 feet.  I have been using 40 lb fluoro which is fairly thick. I don't like the sound of it entering rod so I don't go longer. The length often prevents me from changing lures.

I use 25lb big game leader, about 5 or 6 ft. Works great

I usually have it so the leader isn't going into my spool before  a cast so probably like 7ft

I use an FG knot, it has a really slim profile

I go for 9wraps on a blood knot. Goes in and out of my spool and through all the guides on casts. Been working good for me

Is there a sweet spot between the braid and leader in terms of lbs? Like you always have the leader be half the lbs of the braid or is it just selective?

I tie a leader and use about 6 feet of leader and tie to a decoy egg snap. Ive found that thats is what works best for me!

I only use this on one setup for soft baits with single hooks. 80# braid with a 10’ leader of 20# flouro. Bloodknot has never failed me and I trim the tag ends right against the knot so it goes through the guides with ease. Good luck.
