carlsbadbassin89
I’ve been going down to my home beach 2 min from my house everyday for the last week and fishing from a softboard our past the surf on the reef. I’ll fish anywhere from 30min to 4 hours with constant bites. It’s been too fun. Even got a good sandbass mixed in. The way these fish pull is something else. I’ll have some GoPro footage up at some point as well. The best one (first pic) came from an open water bite after I saw her busting on bait fish. Glad I was straight braid because she tried her best to take me into the grass but I was able to just horse her up. KCS Custom Lures
Some nice calicos and that sand bass there. Calicos are my favorite fish to catch. Largies don't even come close to fighting as hard. carlsbadbassin89
carlsbadbassin89
@KCS Custom Lures thanks. Yea even the small ones are so violent. It’s just too much fun. I’m kicking myself for not ever coming down to the beach to do this. Born and raised right here at this beach and it’s taken me this long. Now I’m making up for lost time haha KCS Custom Lures

I used to hit the beach and fish all the time from Solana down to Del Mar, but used to go out on my buddy's boat and hit up the kelp beds for some big calicos and lings. carlsbadbassin89
hydrocephalic
Killing me... This is so rad! I did this a few times down at the cliffs and north of swami's when it was flat (which I think is actually a preserve... Oops), but you're murdering it. This is my favorite report, good stuff dude. Hope you caught a wave on your way in. carlsbadbassin89 and KCS Custom Lures 1
carlsbadbassin89
@KCS Custom Lures Yea I gotta get a kayak to make it out to the closer kelp patties I know about. Thats next on the list. KCS Custom Lures
carlsbadbassin89
@hydrocephalic Thank man! Yea every time haha. Always take a decent set wave in since I'm farther out than everyone haha. I believe it's fine to fish that preserve from shore or board, just not boat. Or it might be not from shore and you can from boat? Idk, but theres a few ways you're allowed to fish it. hydrocephalic

carlsbadbassin89
@MattGbaz they sure do. Even the smallest ones are so mean and don’t give up. Kinda kills the fun with the largies for me. MattGbaz
chevro1et
Great catches, Scott! It's awesome that you're having a blast out there. I lived in South Korea for 7 or 8 years before I ever caught my first largemouth, and I had been an addicted walleye / pike angler all my life in Canada. Lemme know before you start selling all your freshwater gear to fund your new salty pleasure haha. carlsbadbassin89

carlsbadbassin89
@chevro1et thanks Ian! I don’t think my love for greenies will ever go away. Especially in the colder months and I don’t wanna sit out there in 55 degree water haha
