Volfan
Something to think about - wider, shallower spools do better in this instance as there’s less line depth to dig in. You can get a ton of light braid on without it being wrapped too deep. 168 Rookie
japanesebassman
40 pound braid to 20 pound mono has never failed me for baits between 1-3oz.This is as long as I tie a (good) FG knot. Every time i see someone cast a bait off on a backlash is in their leader knot, never the braid. I will step up to 50 for my 4-6 ounce baits. I rarely throw over 6 but when i do i will go 65. For all of these i follow with the 20 pound mono or fluoro leader. bigpoppabass
rwp
All our rods are set up with 50, 65 or 80lb. I use 50lb sufix 832 on my rods, which is there diameter and strength of most companies 65lb. A backlash broke a bait in half on me once, but the line held. I use a mono leader about 18" long. bigpoppabass
bigpoppabass
Tx SU for all.of the helpful feedback. I ended up spooling a stashed nib og daiwa coastal (another is my current go-to buzzjet reel) with 30 lb braid. I will report back once striper season kicks back in gear during May-June. The goal of all of this is to feel as light as possible when we chase the fish - that means lots of casts.
