Baby-possum eating walleye

Headed to the lake Saturday night for a few hours, had a good night caught about 25 all on a baby possum and a 9” slammer, but was very surprised when one of the fish ended up being a walleye. We don’t have a ton of them in NC and I’ve never caught one on top before.DC8DFA30-1C57-4F57-A96F-F90B8C9629A8.thumb.jpeg.c1a905a4671765915b714b3ae838f6f1.jpegA3A1DEFC-E6DA-42F7-9D9F-38F7A42E86D5.thumb.jpeg.3112c2c377a3af8fa550fe72b07027ba.jpeg27199DBD-7C09-4D14-9644-74AB6353CA68.thumb.jpeg.8878a6beac294d4ad2504c9f0ed85a24.jpeg5683B611-1A57-436C-BDEC-153DA07B8F69.thumb.jpeg.ef6a602e8693912598a8112084bcb79f.jpeg

That is awesome. Gives me hope for when I get back to Canada for vacation (hopefully next year).

Where do you go in Canada? Ive done a fly-in trip near Kenora, Ontario a few times, love it up there but haven’t been since I got into throwing swimbaits...think I’d be pretty nervous throwing expensive baits around all those pike haha

I'm from Saskatchewan, my parents still live there. Lots of Northern Pike and Walleye in those waters too. From my (rudimentary) understanding, esox typically do not hunt much during the night. My vague / rough plan is for hard baits (glide, crankdown) with a toothy-resistant leader during the day, big Keitechs with no leader at night.

Awesome! Any smallmouth there? We were mainly targeting smallmouth when I've been but of course run into plenty of pike and walleye and a few lake trout

No smallies at all, there's one reservoir that has largemouth that were stocked many years ago and have a self-sustaining population. Other than that, Pike and Walleye are the main game fish in the southern section of the province.
