119bowhunter
Headed to the lake Saturday night for a few hours, had a good night caught about 25 all on a baby possum and a 9” slammer, but was very surprised when one of the fish ended up being a walleye. We don’t have a ton of them in NC and I’ve never caught one on top before. JacksonF, Harshwaters, yev14 and 11 others
FishDr
Wow! That sounds like a great night with two of my favorite baits and my two favorite swimbait targets, largemouth bass and walleye. But a walleye on the Baby Possum? That's the first time I've heard of that happening. That is awesome! 119bowhunter and yev14
yev14
In over 40 years of fishing for walleye I've caught exactly 3 on top, and none on a Baby Possum. Rare for sure and awesome as well ! 119bowhunter

Ive done a fly-in trip near Kenora, Ontario a few times, love it up there but haven’t been since I got into throwing swimbaits...think I’d be pretty nervous throwing expensive baits around all those pike haha

Lots of Northern Pike and Walleye in those waters too. From my (rudimentary) understanding, esox typically do not hunt much during the night. My vague / rough plan is for hard baits (glide, crankdown) with a toothy-resistant leader during the day, big Keitechs with no leader at night. We were mainly targeting smallmouth when I've been but of course run into plenty of pike and walleye and a few lake trout

Other than that, Pike and Walleye are the main game fish in the southern section of the province. 119bowhunter
