Back pain problems
brootalititties and 2 others reacted to danthefisherman for a topic
I’m still on the younger side, but slinging big baits all day while sitting in a kayak comes with its aches and pains…especially when you get over that 5oz threshold. Stretching beforehand helps. It makes you look like a wimp if there are spectators around, but you’ll thank yourself later for loosening up those muscles and joints before straining them. I’ve also found that having the proper rod (length and action) makes a huge difference. I’m trying to train myself to let the rod load up more and really launch the bait. My arms should mostly be used to stabilize and induce motion/loading, and my back should not be thrown in behind every cast. This has really helped reduce fatigue and I actually seem to get better casting distance too. Learning to cast and retrieve ambidextrously can also be good.3 points -

Not sure what you do for work but the amount of sitting most people do is not great for your back or hips. There's lots of videos on stretches and exercises you can do to combat the imbalanced that develope as a result of that.2 points -

Broke Boy reacted to MajorStyles for a topic
Relatively new to swimbaiting; new to the board. Enjoying seeing everyone else’s PB’s so I wanted to post mine. Caught in March this year on an 8” Magdraft. 8lbs 9oz. Absolutely thrilled, and have really enjoyed learning to throw big baits.1 point -
11/5/23 Realprey Cold Water Biggin
Mossypumpkin reacted to urbanhick for a topic
First pond this morning was all muddy did a lap and left. Hit another pond down the road using a Realprey Pond Shiner, they always produce in cold water, water was 49/50 degrees. Had a few short strikes from small fish but couldn't hook up. About an hour in I got the slack knock hit and that's usually a good fish and it was. Tipped the scale at 6-13, I thought for sure it was a 7, It was thick fat fish with big shoulders. Been a dismal season and this lit the fire under my ass again lol1 point -

In all of the level/wide swimming glides I've fished, the 250 is king, even back when it was first introduced it was a pretty technologically advanced bait and I can't think of a mass-produced glide bait that is as well made as the 250. Maybe the klash baits but I don't consider them glides per se. To outcompete the 250 I think you'd have to get real close to making a knockoff of it in order to make anything comparable. which you could probably do with no legal repercussions since Deps is a Japanese company (don't tell Berkley that). That said, there are a handful of other glides I turn to when the 250 isn't the move. differing actions, sink rates, colors, and matching the hatch. the 250 does one thing well, and it does it impeccably, but it's not always my #1 choice.1 point

Nope I don't really fish one but tons of bait makers have tried to duplicate the swim of a 250 and failed time after time lol1 point -

Back pain problems
danthefisherman reacted to azsouth for a topic
No one has asked what type of fishing you're doing?...... makes a huge difference between shore, boat, kayak. As a more mature member....I would suggest a stable platform/surface and start your swing low and finish about chest high. Overhead casts put a lot of strain on your whole body! Don't try to overcast the bait. I am not a Dr. but I have been through more surgery's than most people and still throw larger baits routinely. Sometimes as we mature are body just can't do what we used to do.1 point -

253caster reacted to Glidepride for a topic
I wrecked my back some years ago. After numerous sessions to the Chiro I was much better. Now I use a foam back roller. I take it on ever long distance trip. My other recommendations are working on your casting technique, using the right rod power(you won't the rod to properly load up), keep different baits on deck(light through heavy), open up you reels braking system and make more controlled casts(you should be able to make the same distance). https://youtu.be/zEYUM7ednNs Here's the video Working2fish mentioned.1 point -

Still figuring out the GoPro stuff, hope this link works…turn your volume down and please excuse the yell, I was excited I was throwing a ROF 5 hudd and saw the fish under the trunk of a big laydown, when I reeled it over top of her I saw her move out towards it and I killed it and she ate it as it fell in front of her1 point -

Matt Allen Has an old video explaining how to cast bigger baits without as much wear on your back or joints. It's been a long time since I saw the video, but I think it's still up on his channel. Don't know if it will help you, but it might.1 point -
SUB Tournament Entries and Verification
jmpatacsil reacted to swimbaitunderground for a topic
For every monthly SUB and Battle the SU Crew takes a look at all entries submitted. In some cases it is easy for us to validate the fish and in others it is difficult. In addition to the Crew we also send Battle entries to 8-10 well respected members of the Swimbait Community (both forum members and not). When it comes to documenting your catches we encourage you to shoot as many photos as you can and when possible video of the weight. The more photos and angles you have the easier it is for us to validate a catch. In a perfect world we would require all entries to have full Cast 2 Catch but we know a good number of our members are on shore and C2C is not possible. One thing that make it easier on us is a straight down shot of the fish on the board with the top lip as close to 0 as possible. Some prefer to close the mouth but that usually requires a second person to take the photo as you hold it. Example below If you are ever questioning if you have enough pics or videos, just take more. Thanks again to all entries in all our tournaments, at the end of the day we can only make calls based on the photos and videos we have.1 point -

I forgive my ignorance. I went through the link given and seen numbers of fish in the 2-7lb class. Anyone know of any competitions won on Pizz Customs? Maybe if we get some DD's in the topic we can hype the baits even more.1 point -

If your brakes or spool tension is too high the bait might just be swinging on the end of the cast. Try a sidearm cast with a jig and your spool tension all the way up and you'll see what I mean.1 point

Yeah, sounds like you just need to put in some more reps with the rod, and your casting will correct itself.1 point

PB striped bass with an audience
Swimb8 Slinger reacted to Swimbait302 for a topic
Was in the area and decided to fish the body of water the Delaware state record largemouth was caught out of (wagamons pond in Milton). I started at the dam above the spillway casting into the wind and lost an 8” magdraft to a pickerel and decided I’d had enough of the swimbait for the day. The spillway at wagamons pond dumps water into the upper broadkill river which is a brackish tidal fishery (roughly 9 miles from the Delaware bay). I caught abt 15 little largemouth blitzing micro bait on a lucky craft pointer sp and as I was abt to leave I watched someone across the river catch a 6lb largemouth on a worm and bobber and said “what the hell why not throw the sly guy around”. I moved over to the other side of the river and saw 20+ bluegill beds scattered around a drainage pipe and knew I had a shot at a big largemouth. These beds happened to be abt 50 yards from a popular Mexican restaurant so there were plenty of people walking around and even more people fishing the spillway. First cast out by the drop off I get 2 chops in with the 6.2” sly guy gill before the water erupted around my bait. At first I thought I’d hooked the state record but after a drag stripping 20 yard run I got her to the bank and realized what I’d caught. And the people fishing next to me offered to take a picture of my catch. I had no idea striper of this size traveled this far upriver and after getting a weight and length on her I realized that this was my biggest striper period. I’ve been chasing a striper of this size all my life in the canal by my house in Lewes and I think it’s pretty funny that I finally land her 9 miles upriver in trophy largemouth territory. Sorry for the long write up but this fish means more to me than a 6lb largie ever could. 11.2lbs 29”1 point
