  1. Just pcsd from there. The New River. Lake Sutton is more of a boat spot but I was able to fish effectively wading when not on my boat/kayak. The ponds on Lejeune have their moments. Mile Hammock bay is pretty good (and the other one down the road from it). Henderson is one that has its moments. Don’t waste time at Orde pond. Landfill ponds have fish but are hit or miss. Further away is Lake Waccamaw. Jordan and Shearon Harris are good. I’m in Beaufort SC and miles and miles away from public bass fishing. Looked like some small ponds on the air station though. Fish inshore too.
  2. It’s an experiment. Depth speed Cadence action/vibration profile size color area/structure/cover. A cast on which nothing happens can tell you quite a bit.
  3. You can get a realprey perch in a white perch pattern. My best numbers swimbait everywhere I've been. But any dark back/light belly pattern is a good imitation for a glide bait. Grew up eating a lot of white perch from the reservoirs in Northern Baltimore County, MD. Really good on crackers with some mustard.
  4. Just pre-fishing rituals like tying new leaders/knots and rigging the night before so I'm not wasting time in the morning or when I get to the water. I guess the banana thing is subconscious but I've caught fish with them on board too. Most of my boat no-nos relate to others at the ramp...peeves such as not using the prep area to prep your damn boat. Annoying when folks take 20 minutes in the ramp. I have worn the same green Tilley broad brim hat since 2012.
  5. I've been fishing inshore more and more. I use my regular swimbait gear abu max toro/toro beast; okuma sbx; dobyns. Got some real prey perch coming in a pinfish pattern. Throwing burrito taquito and a couple other swimmers too at redfish/trout.
  6. I’m not sure what the most sensitive is. A lot of guys like the Dobyns 807. I’ve wanted one but I’ve been using the Okuma SBX XH and its a good rod for the price.
  7. Get an anchor and stake out pole. Decent paddle and a good pfd. Pedal drive kayak if you can swing it. I run an old town PDL and once I get rid of my bass boat I probably won’t get another for a few years. I fish in eastern NC but moving to the low country SC in a few months.
  8. Enjoy it while it lasts. Recruit training is not the Marine Corps. Not by a long shot.
  9. Not required for burrito baits or any other silicone bait. You could just get a plain Tupperware type box and drill holes in the box and use a zip tie/paper clip combo to hold them up. Then stand them up vertically in your bag.
  10. When I tie braid direct I use a trilene knot.
  11. Okuma was no help to me when I needed to replace the guides on my Citrix travel rods. But that was a few years ago. Ended up just getting them from mudhole. I also use the sbx, my most used rod by far.
  12. 65# power pro to a shock leader or copolymer is a great option. Connect with blood knot or alberto. Tacticalbassin has some insightful vids into the topic including how to not cast off (not using too light of braid because braid cuts braid in lighter sizes).

    Burrito fish

6-4 today during lunch on Camp Lejeune. 7.5” line thru slow sink. Slump buster.
  14. It’s great feel of the bottom, but hasn’t produced for me. I probably gave it a dozen or so outings before I just went to creeping the reel handle. in the words of yoda-there is another. On bass resource or ultimate bass there was a thread of a regular person trying stitching, but not with swimbaits. One commenter mentioned fishing with a guide and that there was such a thing as too slow. I’d assume it’s like anything. It just takes a lot of practice to build confidence in the presentation.
  15. Let me know if you find your way to Lejeune in the next few months.
  16. Musky rods are generally more pool cue than a swimbait rod. If you want you cast a 40oz bait it will probably do it and do it well. I fished with a bass pro musky rod for a little. It’s a beast rod but 100% can support a witch on Halloween on her way to hog warts. Caught several swimbait fish with it.
  17. Realprey and smash tech baits
  18. You can probably get a replacement from LDC if you contact them. Or just go to mud hole and find something of similar size. There’s charts and guides all over the web for these types of things.
  19. Largemouth and bluegill are not native in Japan. Americans introduced them after the war and they are considered invasive.
  20. There is a Joshuya is Osaka if I remember correctly. It wasn’t terribly far from the train station. There are also a couple little ones by the lake. Don’t be the westerner freaking out at the trashcans full of fish.
