  1. Hello everyone I'm new to swimbait fishing and I was told that this was a good place that I can get help. If I'm not posting in the right place please let me know. I'm here in Florida and I want to get my new PB and I have seen the best way to do it is on big swimbaits. My current record is 7lbs not small but not the biggest either. I am also a soft plastic bait maker as well also do alot of saltwater fishing...... anyways back to the point I have 0 experience when it comes to swimbaits along with 0 confidence. So I was wondering what is the best way to start I would like to get a decent setup do I have been looking at a shimano tranx 300 but I'm not sure about the rod yet I was looking to throw 20lb fluorocarbon line unless I'm told otherwise on here. So what are y'alls suggestions on beginner baits that will get me bites and a decent rod to get as well. A bait that I do make is a 4inch paddletail swimbait along with a 6inch and the 6inch bait takes a 10/0 owner beast. The picture I have added is my 6inch bait.
  2. Hey all, new to the forum, learned a lot from reading already. Looking for advice on a first swimbait rod, starting with the smaller stuff ~2-4 oz. I'll pick up a hud 6" trout and maybe a bluegill, maybe an 8" and as well but nothing heavier than that for bass (for now). Also have a bbz1 rat 50 and savage 3D shine glider 185 i was previously messing around with on a flipping stick. I plan to also use it on my rockfish party boats for similar weighted swimbaits/jigs/spoons maybe more like 3-5 oz, typically in 50-70ft of water. Maybe I'll get lucky and hook a nice seabass or ling. Looking at: Daiwa DX 8ft heavy, Dobyns Fury 806 swimbait, iRod Genesis II, iRod kaimana 8' SB (not a lot of info out there on these but intriguing) From what I gather there are a lot of "2-8 oz" rods that actually feel like they max out around 5 oz, I think that's right for me. Am I in the right ballpark here? Any suggestions? Planning to pair with my Daiwa coastal (200 size) and 50# braid with fluorocarbon leader or mono leader. I'm hearing amazing things about the genesis ii and I had a Fiber series flipping stick i really liked, but I don't want the short handle...which lead me to the Kaimana series, but it's pricier. Anyone know anything there? Any other tips for a newbie? Most of my bass fishing in shallow city ponds. There are some monsters in there. Thanks!
  3. So I've been new to fishing and need to know some more information. It's funny because when I was a kid I never wanted to fish again due to getting hooked in my finger and getting traumatized ever sense. Now I've picked it up in during May and now I'm addicted. Between then and now I've gotten hooked a couple times but hasn't fazed me. Anyways I've been researching a lot and now I know some of the basics I guess you could say but want to learn more on the swimbait culture. 1. What are some of the best swimbait rods? (Custom or production) 2. What are some of the best swimbait rods that don't break the bank? 3. What type of line should I use? 4. How do you set up the swimbait? (Do you tie the line straight to the bait or do you use clips?) 5. Where would you use the baits and which color to use? I'm based out in Dallas, Texas. I dont have a boat to go in rivers or lakes. I basically bank fish around locally. So so far I've caught 3 bass... but not on any swimbaits. I'm probably not fishing right or using the right bait. Not sure. I currently own a 7 ft. MH TFO rod paired with the shimano curado dc and also have a 7 ft. MH ugly stick paired with a daiwa spinning reel. Also just recently purchased a shimano scorpion antares and plan on possibly using it for a swimbait set up. I've been eyeing some DRT products but the ones I really want are sold out or are not available in the states. Any tips/knowledge is much appreciated. Thanks!
  4. Just recently got my first legitimate swimbait setup which is a Shimano Tranx 300 and a 8’ Dobyns Champion XP, I have a few S-wavers and a Spro BBZ1 Jr., Jackall gantarel jr, and a Bucca 5” Bullshad, looking for some suggestions as to expanding my arsenal but keeping the price per bait under 100 bucks?? Thanks!
