  1. Hey guys, Long story short, I was looking for a rod to throw small-medium sized treble hook baits on and the evergreen combat kept popping up as I was searching. I know no one that uses a combat stick and just wanted some first hand experience of what y'all thought of the rod and such. Thank you guys
  2. Hey Everyone, I am new to the big bait game but I recently started throwing them in a pool just to learn mechanics and stuff. Right now my setup is a Daiwa DX 8’ MH with a Lexa HD 300. Most of the baits I own are in the 7-7.5” range. I found that when throwing them on the setup I have it was tough to get them to swim and dart, it seemed almost like the rod was too overpowering and making them roll or just wash out. Just for Kicks I decided to try them out on a smaller lighter rod so I put them on a 7’1” MH and it seemed like those Baits really came alive and we’re so much easier to control. Even my Jointed Claw 230s seemed to have trouble on the heavier rod. Do I just suck that bad or is there a tip for using smaller lighter rods for bigger Baits. Now I do understand that bombing a long cast on a lighter rod isn’t advisable with heavier stuff but would I be able to comfortably throw something in the 2-4oz range on say a 7’6” MH, or should I just practice more?
  3. Has anyone used nameless swimbait rods? Wondering about quality.
  4. So I know that this topic has been discussed in the past, but I was seeing a lot people talking about phenix blanks in the 8 foot length for swimbaits, and I personally like a longer 8'6" rod. I'm leaning towards a phenix black diamond 869 blank to have someone build up, but I'd like to hear some more input. Also is the only difference between the hybrids and the normal black diamonds that the hybrids have a faster action for their rating? My primary use for this rod would be throwing deps 250s with the occasional 8 or 10 inch hudd or baitsmith mag. Side note: Does anyone ever cut other longer rods down to size or is that kind of pointless?
  5. Anyone ever used the Alpha Angler wide glide swimbait rod? Want to hear people’s experience.
  6. Hey all, new to the forum, learned a lot from reading already. Looking for advice on a first swimbait rod, starting with the smaller stuff ~2-4 oz. I'll pick up a hud 6" trout and maybe a bluegill, maybe an 8" and as well but nothing heavier than that for bass (for now). Also have a bbz1 rat 50 and savage 3D shine glider 185 i was previously messing around with on a flipping stick. I plan to also use it on my rockfish party boats for similar weighted swimbaits/jigs/spoons maybe more like 3-5 oz, typically in 50-70ft of water. Maybe I'll get lucky and hook a nice seabass or ling. Looking at: Daiwa DX 8ft heavy, Dobyns Fury 806 swimbait, iRod Genesis II, iRod kaimana 8' SB (not a lot of info out there on these but intriguing) From what I gather there are a lot of "2-8 oz" rods that actually feel like they max out around 5 oz, I think that's right for me. Am I in the right ballpark here? Any suggestions? Planning to pair with my Daiwa coastal (200 size) and 50# braid with fluorocarbon leader or mono leader. I'm hearing amazing things about the genesis ii and I had a Fiber series flipping stick i really liked, but I don't want the short handle...which lead me to the Kaimana series, but it's pricier. Anyone know anything there? Any other tips for a newbie? Most of my bass fishing in shallow city ponds. There are some monsters in there. Thanks!
  7. Anyone know the rod blanks that the bigger companies are running for their builds. Like down down and moams??

  9. Looking for a Daiwa DX swimbait rod Heavy, or anything that would close to it.
  10. What's up SU! I'm a bit of a noob to swim-baits, I started throwing a few this summer.. BBZ-Rat30, BBZ-Shad, Biovex Jointed Gill and a few Savage Gear baits on under-powered rod/reel for the last 2 years. I planning on buying my first SB set up this winter. I'm eyeing a bunch of recommended gear from the forum, but came across this rod preview on TackleTour that I thought might interesting to some over here. http://www.tackletour.com/previewsavagegearbrowserrodpreview.html word around here is the Okuma Guide Select is a decent entry-level SB rod. Seems like SG is a sister company to Okuma or a brand under their umbrella, which makes this Browser series interesting for a noob. Any Europeans on this forum that have fished SG rods before? I'll be interested to see the full TT reviews when it drops.
  11. Looking to buy a right hand shimano tranx 400 size. Also, a dobyns 806 swimbait rod and deps 175.
  12. Selling my LDC Production Model XH. It is in perfect condition. PM me with offers.
  13. Looking for another treble bait rod, I have an M1 which I love and an okuma sbx for heavier stuff. The okuma is very much fast action so better for jig hooks. Many non custom rods in the under 6oz class are rated fast. What are your favorite medium action or slower "fast" rods for these style of baits? Not looking for custom at this point.

  15. As the title states... I'm in the market for a low down custom xxh rod. PM me if you are looking to get rid of one!
  16. Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but I've been saving up a bit of money for a swimbait rod up to $300. I have never used a true dedicated swimbait rod or owned one. So I would like some first person experience help here. I've found 2 rods I really prefer. The Dobyns Champion 796sb and LDC MH/H 7'9". The reason for this is I prefer shorter rods, full foam handles and I dont like cork or split grip for chucking heavy lures. I know the LDC comes with the spiral wrap. If you can give insight on pros/cons about that also, it would be helpful. If you guys/gals can give some insight on either rod it would be appreciated.

    Khanh Customs

Hey guys, just made this video of a friend of mine who builds rods in San Jose, CA. Made this video for class but thought i'd like to share it with you guys on here. Short biopic of Khanh Adams, South Bay Area angler and custom rod builder.
  19. Hey I'm just getting into the swimbait game and I'm wondering what would be a good rod. I have a Lexa 300 HD and wanna know a good rod to pair with it. Biggest I'm throwing is Gantarels and 8 inch glides (savage gear) and lowest I'll throw is probably my spro bbz 40 rat and some 168 s-wavers.
  20. Looking for a Low Down Customs 8" Heavy. If you have one for sale or know of one then please message me at 530 545 1626 or leave a comment below.
  21. Hi all, as much as i hate to do it I have to hang up the big bait game for some time indefinitely. being a full time bassist my shoulder is singing the blues from throwing swimbaits for the past couple of years and my physical therapist said its time to lay off or stop playing. for your consideration - two custom rods built by Evan Weidner of Palehorse Swimsuit rods. These rods are dead mint. I took delivery of them last month. They are matched pair of XH & XXH rods. Specs below XH 8' - 3-8 oz rating with fuji aconite guides and desert camo eva grip (first photo) ... $330 shipped XXH 8'6 - 5-12 oz rating with fuji aconite guides and desert camo eva grip (second photo) ... $350 shipped these rods are dead mint - all of maybe an hour of time on the water as I was phasing out my other rods before i started to (or planned to) fish these get them while you can as pale horse is not taking anymore orders i believe NO TRADES
  22. I was going to order a LDC rod.I already own Dobyns 867,795,and an 806,I would be using this for throwing deps 250,RM Mothers, and maybe some larger soft baits with jig hooks.I was thinking getting an 8 ft custom xxh, wasn't sure if the parabolic or mod/fast action would be better.
  23. Hey SU, So my college bass team just got offered a rod sponsorship from Vexan Rods (A small company out of Land O'Lakes Florida). Was just wondering if anyone has ever used them as they do make a 1-6 oz swimbait rod for 130 bucks (or any of their standard rods).
  24. Does anyone have experience using this or other glass/graphite composite cranking rods with S-Waver 168s or similar weight class glide baits? I'd be getting the 7'11" MH rod rated for 1/2-3 oz. Thanks http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Lews_David_Fritts_Perfect_Crank_Speed_Stick_Cast_Rod/descpage-DFPC.html
