  1. After a cold front came through and dropped Daytime temperatures about 35 degrees yesterday, today was warmer and overcast. Time to hit my local lake and wake up some bass. Fortunately, the lake is still open. No huge fish, but a bunch of 16-21” bass happy to attack the Wake Jr on a deadsticking or slow twitch retrieve. Met another SU member, Ryan (I think) from San Marcos and kept a good social distance. Good to see another maniac throwing the big stuff here in my corner of the world! Hope you nailed some on your Pizz baits! I’ll keep trying to find those big, hungry lady bass. Until next time, stay safe, stay healthy, and keep grinding!
  2. After getting my 7” slammer from SU member cubneck a couple of days ago, I knew I had to give it a try. The local bass are still sort of in summer pattern since the weather is weird. It got up to 92 on the lake today. But morning clouds made it bearable as I launched and hit some of my better spots. Saw a couple of other boats with guys either throwing spinnerbaits or Carolina Rigs. As usual, I was the only sicko throwing big baits. But the slammer proved its worth. No trophies, but 4 solid 3-4.5 lbs fish tried to yank it from my line. Definitely going to see a lot more action this fall as the bigger ladies move shallow.
  3. It’s been a couple of weeks since I was out last. The weather has been weird. Probably because of the deadly combination of global warming and alien intervention. Or not. I hit my local lake to throw some big baits, but couldn’t get anybody to stick to the hooks. There was also a tournament with boats zipping all over the place in a hurry to not catch any fish. Still, I was able to land this little 17” fish on the hardgill. Prespawn should start in about a month so I’m hoping the big girls start showing up more regularly.
  4. The past couple of trips have been lonely for my swimbaits. The crankbaits get plenty of action being the easy little skanks they are, but I’ve only had a few passes at the classy big baits. That changed today when I found some fish in a creek channel from 5-12’ deep. They’d eaten the crank last time, so I put it away and threw the Bullshooter I got almost a year ago from Top Ramen (awesome dude to buy from). Got this one, then another one about the same size threw the hook right at the kayak. One more hit it but didn’t stick. Hope you got out after Thanksgiving and stuck a few!
  5. New to the gang here, just curious what y’alls opinions are when it comes to swimbaiting stained waters. What do y’all consider stained or dirty and how do you approach it? I’m from deep East Texas and clear water is pretty much non existent around here. Anything over 3’ visibility to us is pretty clear. So how would y’all attack waters like that? Those bright pink, chartruse, purple, yellow, orange, lures are fairly intimidating to me, especially when you’re paying so much per lure.
  6. I’ve been hitting my local lake a lot the past month. Most guys are pounding the banks with senkos and rat-l-traps and getting all excited for 12-15†bass. I’ve been chasing them deeper in my kayak with big crankbaits to mimic the shad. Biggest bass over the past 3 trips was 4.5 lbs. So today, after browsing this here forum and watching Jaws to get myself inspired, I left home with only Swimbaits. Within the first couple of casts, the bass let me know I made the right choice. Once again, Mattlures gill proves that it pulls in the bigger fish on any lake they’re inhaling sunfish. First one was small, about 3 lbs. next was 5lbs. 6 oz. and final one was 6 lbs. 4 oz. then the lightning and downpouring started so I booked it.
  7. I am looking to trade a 400 sz conquest (good condition) a dobyns 975 8†2-6 oz for a tranx and a custom lowdown rod
  8. Hi everyone! New to the site. Loving it and lurking on it for a long time. I threw big baits back when I lived in Cali, so not entirely a newbie. Planning on fishing the Intracoastal Waterway near Corpus and South Padre Island. They get an influx of Tarpon, Redfish (by the millions), Speckled Trout, even some Kingfish. Mullet seem to be the prevailing forage fish, so was thinking of maybe some glidebaits or wakebaits that might do the trick. Buddies of mine say they are getting tired of catching the 2-8 # fish, yet they only toss gulps, bass assassins, etc. Small stuff. A typical day out there is like hooking dozens of small fish, then getting railroaded by a big bull that snaps them off. My line of thinking would be to toss bigger baits from the get go. What baits would you guys toss at fish feeding on Mullet? Glides and wakes suggestions. Thanks!
