I root for mushrooms, (chantrels, and morels, mostly,) wild ginseng, onions, wild horseradish, berries in season...oh wait! that kinda "root" , then it's the E-A-G-L-E-S, GO EAGLES!(or should I say "iggles", so you guys understand.).

 

You serious about mushroom hunting?

 

no no Speedbeard... not the those kind of shrooms..

Wisconsin public television had a program on last night where a guy was picking maitake (same as a ramshead,hen of the woods, etc...) and selling them to local restaurants. So I was doing some reading on them. I might look for some this year.

 

Morels are the only type I've really tried for.

Seriously though, I got into finding Rams Head 'shrooms last year. They go by a bunch of names but they look like this:

 

Yes, those kind of shrooms, and "rams head" or "sheepsheads" or "Maitake", or more well known "Hen of the Woods"...delicious, and one of the easiest around our parts to find. I concentrate on Morels, and Chantrells though. Need a new thread...
