8 Trap Method

Would love to see this done in Florida.

Those Japanese bass must have some special predator instinct that my fish don't haha

You could do that for 72 straight hours in my area and it will catch you nothing. Cute videos though.

Looks like a high speed musky figure eight that emphasizes staying on the surface. Definitely worth adding to the retrieve arsenal.

I'd be curious if anyone in the US has had success with this.

I appreciate their success with it, buts it's hardly a new technique (albeit new with swimbaits). "Skittering" has been going on since the early 1900s at least. I know a dude that used to do this along grass lines and blow downs, but usually with a buzz bait or spinner bait. Stealth is key with this. Long casting has always been overrated.

Caught my biggest bass this year doing this with a gancraft 303 couldn't figure 8 it cause I was in a tree only head less then 2 feet to work with. So start doing the 8 trap method. I'm amazed how long the fish stay in front of you while your doing it. The 3 and 4 pounders in my area won't commit to it ,but the 6 plus pounders fall for it  don't know why. 

I’ve had the best success with 8 trap or figure 8 shore banging with bladed jigs and over sized boot tail trailers, hit a few good ones a couple nights ago on the rad rat after they would short strike or miss, 75% of the time they would commit to the trap. VIVA LA OCHO

This is very interesting. Surprising it works imo. Maybe I need to ratchet up my topwater game and create more commotion. 

Tried it today with a 2 pounder that hit a couple times but it just didn’t get hooked well enough!

I've tried this a number of times over the years.  I only remember it working twice, but one of those bass was over 7#.

you think that's exciting, you should see a upper 40" musky follow in and follow on the 8.....my heart has never pounded that hard.

Lets hear from some of you muskie guys.  I know you guys practice the figure 8 all the time and I also know you get some really big bass (especially smallies) to follow those muskie baits.  Do you get many bass to commit with the figure 8?
