There have been numerous videos surfacing of swimbait enthusiast using a new technique to trick bass: The 8 Trap Method

The approach mimics a panicking fish of the surface of the water causing a commotion.

Satan Shimada, Lure Designer at Madness Japan, spots a follower pursuing his Balam 300 when he uses a figure eight motion to cause a commotion  The action starts at 2:00 when the fish strikes twice without getting the hooks until getting stuck on the third strike.

Tomoya Shirakawa of Division Rebel Tackles with a Cast 2 Release video displaying the effectiveness of the 8 Trap Method with the new Klash Ghost lure.

Walking the bank in Japan, Ryota Masumoto uses his Gan Craft Jointed Claw to trick a largemouth into committing on the surface.

I appreciate their success with it, buts it's hardly a new technique (albeit new with swimbaits). "Skittering" has been going on since the early 1900s at least. I know a dude that used to do this along grass lines and blow downs, but usually with a buzz bait or spinner bait. Stealth is key with this. Long casting has always been overrated.

Caught my biggest bass this year doing this with a gancraft 303 couldn't figure 8 it cause I was in a tree only head less then 2 feet to work with. So start doing the 8 trap method. I'm amazed how long the fish stay in front of you while your doing it. The 3 and 4 pounders in my area won't commit to it ,but the 6 plus pounders fall for it  don't know why.

I’ve had the best success with 8 trap or figure 8 shore banging with bladed jigs and over sized boot tail trailers, hit a few good ones a couple nights ago on the rad rat after they would short strike or miss, 75% of the time they would commit to the trap. VIVA LA OCHO

you think that's exciting, you should see a upper 40" musky follow in and follow on the 8.....my heart has never pounded that hard.

Lets hear from some of you muskie guys.  I know you guys practice the figure 8 all the time and I also know you get some really big bass (especially smallies) to follow those muskie baits.  Do you get many bass to commit with the figure 8?
