Bluegill swimbaits? Mattlures, citizen etc?
alabamaswimbait and 4 others reacted to chefchris for a topic
Soft baits: real prey, dreamsmasher, savage gear, hudd, Rago, plus a ton of others. Personally I’d go real prey, Joe will make you the bait in any color you want, match it to your gills hard baits: too many to list. but my vote goes to the toxic whippersnapper and toxic Wade hoggs, proven baits, tons of colors, the whippersnapper now comes in like 4 or 5 versions. I like the 2.0 wake and crank standard version. The Wade hoggs is probably one of the most proven gill baits around. other ones I own and fish, are Hiro gill/billrilla, beebs blaster, rafa 2 or 3 piece, deltadood gill swimmer and glide5 points -

I'm in northern IL so not your neck of the woods, but the Savage Gwar pulse tail gills are super realistic, get bit, don't break the bank and are readily available on TW. They're snack-sized so they won't satisfy any "big bait" urges, but definitely worth it. They come in a top hook and weedless version. Good luck in yoyr search.4 points -

I don’t know about the Kokanee, but I asked someone who owns and fishes plenty of both …the workhorse and gizzard. His description I understood simply because I have glides that match both descriptions. I was told the workhorse has a smoother more fluid feel when fishing it where the gizzard has a bit of a catch you feel when the bait switches directions. Again, he fishes both but that’s pretty much his description. I know that catch feeling. My 10” Dockrats and 9” BGCs feel that way when I fish them moderate to fast. I kinda like that because it helps me keep in rhythm with what my baits doing when it’s deeper. I feel that “catch” and know a reel chop will shoot it one way and farther out on the pause in the opposite direction. Hope that makes sense.3 points -

Random opinion: A lot of catches going on right now (Not all) are bedding fish (Obvious injured tails), so don't let social media sway your decisions too much in regards what to buy. You don't have to overwhelm yourself too much, and it's best to keep it simple. Some good recommendations were given already such as G2 shellcracker, Hudd gills, jackall gantarell, real prey. I'd recommend to ignore the hype baits in my opinion. You don't need a 400$ 4" bluegill bait.2 points

Inexpensive and effective= Gantarel for me hands down. Current PB 8.2 is on the jr size. Caught more fish and more big fish on that than any other bluegill multi joint bait so far. Baitsanity explorer gill is also an incredible production glide bait amazing chop to it and customizable. Mattlures hammer tail is my go to softie now although durability is not great unless you do the proper set up before it ever gets tied on. Savage gear is runner up. Burrito gills look cool never tried one though expensive= +1 for sly guy. The realism is insane. Haven’t fished any toxics yet2 points

Here’s a better picture of that Kokanee glide big bass and the story behind it for you folks. Angler Catches Huge Largemouth Bass in California Rising big bass star Greg Springer of Vista has caught and released the largest bass in San Diego in almost two years, a truly massive 16.3 pounder. Springer landed the fish on Friday at Escondido’s Lake Wohlford near the South Shore Rockpile, while fishing from the shoreline with a 3:16 Lure Company Kokanee Glide Bait (pictured in one of those photos below). He had been on a mission to catch this specific bass, after getting a glimpse of her on two previous trips – the first time being the previous Friday when she followed his swimbait. He checked in on her again on Thursday, and saw her rise up behind a big topwater bait he was throwing. After running some errands on Friday, he popped in again to see if she was ready to take the jump from follower to biter. With glassy water conditions, Springer launched his swimbait in the direction of where he’d seen her previously, “she immediately came up and slapped the bait, but I missed her.” Perhaps getting too good of a look at the bait with the glassy calm conditions, and aborting at the last second. So Springer moved on, chucking his bait down the shoreline toward the buoy line. “When I saw the wind come up in that area, I went back over there and she crushed it on the first cast,” he said. The key to finally closing the deal with this particular fish was persistence, timing and recognizing when conditions can work in your favor as opposed to against it.2 points -

Got a solid little 3 pounder last night to break the skunk on the season. New Rad 10 got the job done cranking just below the surface. She slurped the back hook couple feet off the bank for a short lived battle to the bank. Feels great to be back in the game this season. Been grinding all March with nothing but skunks. Keep at it yall!2 points -
Gomexus vs drt varial
Dink whisperer and one other reacted to Bassbooger for a topic
I started out using varial handles an loved them. Gomexus sent me 3 handles to try out before they got popular. I used the gomexus handles for a year. I put them through hell an they never failed me. I ended up selling my varial handles an picking up more gomexus handles. If you got the $ to blow on varial handles for all your setups go ahead. If you want to save a few $ an have some sick handles go with gomexus. The gomexus handles have good bearings in them an they come with every nut you need. Left, right and a nut to fit abu. To me it comes down to how flashy you want to be. I did pick up the gomexus measuring board an love it. It got a folding bump at 0 so you can slide the fish up an not worry about them sliding past the 0 mark. The board rolls up around the bump an velcros closed. An it has a clip to hang on your bag2 points -
Ugggh.. that felt so good. Went 2/3 in bites. 51° water. Bonus tanker I caught crappie fishing Saturday. Tried out a pond I kinda brushed off for 18 years in my inlaws back yard. Boy do I feel like a moron...lol2 points
