Bowfin to kill the skunk
ThatKidInNY and 2 others reacted to DotyBass for a topic
It’s my father in law’s birthday, he wanted to fish! He insisted on minnows and I said I’d be throwing my big swimbaits. He thinks they’re hilarious but swore he’d out fish me with live minnows. We tired 1-1. I had a bowfin crush the Wakewalker on a super slow retrieve, it put up a great fighter. I don’t own a scale, but I’d guess around 4-5 pounds. Gnarly fish, worth looking up. My FIL caught a small panfish. Good day on the water.3 points -

I prefer to throw the K9 on the 795 , way easier to work the bait compared to the 806 and has the right bend to keep fish pinned. And you can still bomb cast it no problem2 points

Put together the last 8'6" prototype, this is number 4. My wife and I both have one of the others and the first one had guides glued on and cut off a few times during testing and won't be rebuilt. The blanks are extremely expensive for this rod, I am not sure if I will make these a full out production rod and keep them in stock like I am for the 8 footers, or do them as special order only. The handle section of this was stripped down and redone a few times during testing, so don't mind that it's not the cleanest as far as the finish work. I just finished gluing in the weights to balance the rod (its balanced for a curado 300) and the butt cap, the tape on the lower section is holding the butt cap in place while it dries. The upper section will be hitting the water for the first time tomorrow, it has corrosion control KW guides from fuji with fazlite rings. Nothing special black wraps. I rate these at up to 5oz, and they are a moderate/fast, but definitely not overly fast. This rod will be available for demo/test purposes, look for a thread about that soon.1 point

I think the point of copolymer line is for the manufacturer to use different materials to manipulate variables such as stretch, tensile strength, stiffness, abrasion resistance, memory, etc.1 point -
Copoly & mono
JulienThamer reacted to Sawhill-guy for a topic
I also throw a ton of wakes in the 2-4 oz range, and like chevro1et, I use Izorline XXX 20 lb and use single or double San Diego Jam knots as well. Haven't looked back since using that knot and line. I think copoly is a little bit stronger and stiffer than mono, still buoyant.1 point -

Well at least I can feel not so guilty knocking a 4 with a 3. Been grinding hard for a bite like this this week. Forgot my headlight in the car, did the best I could with what I had. 4-5 MA1 point -
SUB Tournament August 11th to 17th
aj slick reacted to Mossypumpkin for a topic
Well a member here says he thinks I’m still eligible to win a monthly tourney. Still waiting to hear back from the SU crew. In the meantime, my first bite today was a grown one! I started at one lake and after only having one bite in two hours I ditched and went to another one right down the road. I have a tourney at this lake in a couple weeks so wanted to try a spot to see if it was good on a rainy day. Well it is! Within a couple casts I hung this 5-13 on the curtek bbj trout1 point -
New guy, new bait
Big Epp reacted to Hoosier_Hawgz for a topic
I would take a swing at it if I were a fish! The swim on it looks good, but personally I would love to see a video with some different retrieves thrown in to see how it does at different speeds. The paint looks good too, simple and clean. Nice job all around!1 point -

Traveling Gill Glide
SVT THUNDER reacted to Fried Lemons for a topic
Now I’ve put in some time with it I’ll give my thoughts. At first I questioned the tall profile of the bait and thought it looked like a pancake. The bait is actually quite versatile. It is super stable and can chop and burn without any problem. The glide can be a little quirky but throw some slack at it and it has a killer slow glide. The bait is a slow float which I didn’t like at first but came to really appreciate. I got a few bites twitching it on the surface and working it like a wakebait. I also got bit pitching it into trees and stalling it in the openings. It thumps hard on a burn/straight retrieve which I could see working well in low light conditions. I don’t know of another bait with this size and profile that can do all these things. The profile turned out not to be an issue even for my dinky Maryland fish. I did miss a few bites but no more than I normally would on a hard bait. I connected with a few ranging from 1-5lbs. I interacted with 2 fish in the 6-7lb class that didn’t quite commit. For the short time I’ve had the bait I am very impressed.1 point -
Btw, I actually got hung up in a submerged tree and had to swim out 7-8 yards to save the bait.1 point

Swimbait magazine
CastAddict reacted to Mossyback Angler for a topic
I believe Adrian, the host of Scales N Tales podcast has something in mind dedicated to the swimbait community and potentially in the works for the future. I think it will be a quarterly publication. Though this is not 100% confirmed. I think it is something that has good potential. I still believe in a world dominated by digital media, published and printed content still has tremendous value. Or maybe I’m getting old.1 point -
