I'll get to the fun part, but first...some background. So I just re-entered bass fishing after a year-long hiatus and I've fished a total of 3 times since returning to it. The first of the three was at the beginning of this month when I went fishing with my cousin. I took some frogs and a buzzbait to this place covered in pads just to get us on some fish. Caught a couple and broke off 2 big ones...to be expected when straightening out your tackle again after a year of collecting dust. It was a spool of fluoro that was sitting at my desk at home that apparently went bad - it found it's way to the trash before I even made it home. Next trip, my roundabout boat that I bought a year ago finally made its debut. I got hooked up on what looked like a 6'er when she came to the surface and got her to the boat where I learned a painful lesson about round boats - they spin. Caused me to lose tension in the line when I turned for the net and when I went to reel down to her again she was gone... ...two fishing trips back into it and I was quickly reminded why I hate fishing... Third trip. Yesterday we had a nice front roll through right around 7PM and I was itchin. So I left the office and ran to this pond nearby to beat the bank for a little bit. All I had in the car were those frogs and buzzbait from my first trip earlier in the month. I threw the frog for 45 minutes hitting every spot I could access. Nothing. Switched over to the buzzbait with a 4-inch paddletail minnow as the trailer. Cast it down a juicy stretch and ran it by a favorite log. As soon as it came to the log...SMASH!! *T-bone* *Aerial flip* It was epic. I was on the edge of a dock and there's no way to drag her up on land so I got her in close and grabbed her lip with a huge smile of relief and disbelief all in one. Luckily my uncle had an old spring scale up at his house nearby and she settled right at 7 lbs. ...three fishing trips back into it and I was quickly reminded why I love fishing. So here it is. How many of you would let this fall into the category of a swimbait? I'll go ahead and say that I probably wouldn't and I definitely wouldn't enter this fish into one of the SU tourneys because it does fall into that gray area if not entirely out of it. But I'm curious what the current opinion is of the guys on the site today. So let's hear it! *A quick note about the lure: the minnow has fins, scales, and facial features. It's a paddle tail. It's 4 inches long, but from the tip of the lead head to the tail it is 5 inches long (a huddgill is 5" long).

Hey everyone! I apologize for dropping off the site for a while and letting this sputter a bit. Within the last 23 months I've fished maybe a total of 3 times because of a number of big life changes: I bought a house, built a deck, started a new career, and began working towards a PhD in Physics (part-time student). None of that is an excuse for disappearing without saying anything when I was supposed to be in charge of this program - officially or unofficially. I'm glad it was able to stay alive thanks to the great community we have here! I'm beginning to feel settled in again and I plan to do some fishing here soon; and I figure if I have time to fish then I have time to support this program. If nobody else has taken over, I'll gladly pick up the pieces again and do my best to facilitate the timely transfer of the traveling slammer between members. It'll take me a couple of days to go back through all of the bread crumbs and organize a comprehensive list again, but I'll begin tonight or tomorrow. Same goes for the Traveling Wake if nobody else has picked that up.
