  1. As if spinner handles aren't interchangeable on most every spinning reel ever made. Which they are. So assuming most spinner users do in fact reel lefty then it is nothing more than matter of preference. And if so there is no point to reeling righty on casters just because it's a caster. Lefty casters are available and have been for decades. So why the switch? Because it's different? Cars and trucks are different, too. I see people driving cars on the left side. Why never the right side of trucks then? Hmm.... Availability is not an issue so that can't be it. People import reels all the time. They could do the same with trucks if they choose. As for practical application of importing a truck, well that's a different story. But it can be done. Way I see it you want to reel right then reel right. You want to reel left then reel left. But the changing hands thing is debatable. Anyone who has missed a massive hit upon splashdown would agree; you can't set the hook midair.
  2. Don't know Onyx but do know Mustang and agree they're good for wearing. I wear mine 95% of the time and own several of them actually. They will hold your body weight easy and I advise you forget about pockets. Pockets do not matter. In the drink they will not help you.
  3. It matters. Visibility is a key component to predation. Just that simple.
  4. Interesting topic indeed. My tendency extends beyond baits into rods, reels, even line and hardware. Only way to know is to try. I’m set on hardware, fairly set on line, know exactly what I want in sticks, and from time to time add a new reel to arsenal. But as for baits… the word ‘endless’ comes to mind. Even if I owned all there will always be another. Some I love, some I don’t see the point no matter how much good press they get. I make up my own mind, thank you. I like a certain feedback, certain feel, and dislike baits hard to cast. I don’t like helicoptering and I don’t like hinges that foul easily. Little things add up. Reliability huge. And it’s a pain toying half a day just to keep a bait running right. When enough criteria align that’s when I buy duplicate, different color, different sink rate. And we all know two otherwise identical baits often display unique characteristics. I enjoy this exploration and finding that special bait. In my mind there can never be enough.
  5. BoatUS.org for me. You can knock it out in a half day, though 3 hour is not realistic. I been on water my whole life and it took me 3:40 start to finish. 50% of questions are no brainer, 25% you actually should know, 15% no reason for anyone to ever know, and 10% better read careful or you'll miss it. I got 90.7% on final but should have been better. Take note that if you click your mouse for any reason it auto selects top option by default. Each click is an auto submit, no going back, it does not matter where your cursor is. And my dumb azz did this TWICE before I realized what I did and missed both answers because Option A was not the correct answer. One of the dumber setups I've seen actually. There is no confirmation button, which is ridiculous, and no going back. Which cost me twice. Plus one other question even a noob would argue there were two correct answers for. So, naturally, I selected the first of two and got it wrong. But this was on me for racing through the test. Had I slowed just a bit and read all the way through and all four possible answers I would have realized the answer I selected was not the 'best' answer and therefor incorrect. So this was on me. But the other two were absolutely not. Plus I just outright missed a couple. Going toward the 4th straight hour my mind was getting soft I guess. But you only need 80% to pass so no big deal and I knew that going in. It is simply a pass/fail scenario.
  6. You're gonna think I'm crazy but that can only be one thing; you didn't have the line inside the guide. I've done this before, most have at one time or another and it's hard to see. What you did was insert the line below the guide, inside the frame instead, thereby scrubbing it each cast and retrieve. The damage you show happens as quick as you describe. Assuming the guide inserts themselves are in good repair, as you state, then this is really about the only scenario it could be. A smooth guide will not do this to line. But an edged frame will. I'm near certain that's what happened.
  7. I agree it’s the smoothest I own and I got a lot of reels. Worth the money. I bought 1520 to gap my OG 1016 and 2020 which are top shelf in their own right. I’ve been pleased, however this new platform doesn’t offer the same sheer ability. Not talking night and day but noticeable to benefit of adverse condition such as high wind. It sacrifices distance for control. Side by side undeniable, though had it not been mentioned most probably wouldn’t know. So in effect it is either good or bad depending how you look at it. Otherwise nothing to worry about outside listed spool capacity is B-S. I measured to the inch, not some weak line counter, and filled 93yds of .330 on 1520 before I thought no more. Capacity is not what it claims. By description new 1520 should hold same as old 2020. It does not. I filled side by side and it was off 5-10yds or so. As mentioned above, 20lb is as big as you dare. If you throw larger then get the 2020 instead. You’ll be happy you did.
  8. Yes. And if you guys want to know why they're 'randomly' locking people out or whatever excuse they're giving the real reason is they've become compromised. They're too big and can't confirm the thousands of independent vendors they contract with. Those who have never had a problem with them? Just wait. You will.
  9. … or just buy another stick for that technique. You'll destroy any resale value it has if you cut it. Not to mention warranty if there is one. Really not much upside to cutting up manufactured rods unless you know just exactly what you're doing. And even then it may or may not serve benefit. No offense, just trying to help.
  10. First part yes, second part no. This virus is here and not going away. Tomorrow, next month, next year, year after, this is our new normal. Hopefully medical is able to create a vaccine, to which the stupid anti-vaccers won't use anyway. Everything shut down festers poor health from people not getting exercise who physically need it to mental stress and illness associated with. Some people are afraid to go outside, not going to a doctor when they otherwise know they should. Bottom line, politicians are not qualified to make decisions about other peoples lives. As for a boat ramp, it's not even remotely as dangerous as going to a grocery store. I don't know about you or others reading but I'm at a grocery store every week. Sometimes more than once. Take precaution, be smart, no problem. And this around all those people and all the things they touch in an enclosed environment? Not that horribly dangerous fresh air outdoor boat ramp? Not to mention the distance apart on water? I can't hardly imagine how deadly that must be.... It's ridiculous we're not allowed to be there. It's stupid.
  11. I tend not to stick my neck out for this type b-s but in this case I will. First, I am not going to name names or locations so don't ask. Second, dude has been ousted from more than just one community. Not trying to hate, he may be cool as ice I have no idea, just offering insight in case anyone is on the fence with respect to trust.
  12. Those crazy ebay sales are transfers designed to create perceived market. On ebay the site sometime offers opportunity to sell a certain amount of no fee items. When this happens a seller could simply post an insane price then 'sell' it to themselves. Same for auction. Who says the last two bidders running cost up aren't the same person with separate accounts? We have no way of knowing and neither does ebay. For all we know the item shown might not even be in the sellers hand. And even if it is we have no way of knowing it was ever shipped. The only time ebay might seek confirmation is with buyer complaint. But if seller and buyer are same there won't ever be a complaint. Seriously, I can't be the only dude to ever conceive such a backdoor. This is super easy access for a cheat. Simple and damn near impossible to get caught. All someone needs is a second ebay account. That's it. If in auction format they need three. Simple. And since ebay 'confirms' us by way of email don't you think this smells fishy? Seeing a 2K sale within 2 hours listing a bit odd maybe? I think it's odd. I don't believe it either.
  13. Ryoga 1520 is solid. Very comfortable, smooth in hand, provides an air like sensation under heavy load the predecessors could not. However, I spooled up exactly 93 yards of .330mm backing/braid as main. I don’t care what packaging says, that’s what I fit, I know because I measured it. I did not use some stupid line counter, I carefully laid it out, the number exact. Point being line capacity could be an issue for some. If looking to throw above .370mm, or perhaps maybe .380mm or so at the absolute most, you’re far better off considering the slightly larger 2020 variant instead. Just trying to help.
  14. Can't state to other reels mentioned but know Ryoga Shrapnel can wing it. Trick with bigger baits is swap to bigger provided brake pads. It's delivered with the small installed. Super easy to do, pop off small, pop on big, little light oil around the drum, cinch down tension knob and let it rip. From there dial the tension back where you like it and proceed to open things up. Simple. I have a hard time believing all comparable reels can match the sheer distance this thing is capable of. It's underrated.
  15. Hmm.… IN But if I win then I get to reciprocate. That's the deal. Happy Holidays
  16. ^^^ Totally agree. Long sticks are for distance at expense of other attribute. If there is doubt, consider most bassin' sticks are not 8'6" and there's you answer. Personally, I feel 8ft about the maximum to maintain reasonable control and even that's pushing it in certain situations. Half foot less will not jeopardize ability to keep fish pinned in any way. But a true fast action taper throwing trebles might. It can work, not saying it can't, but it can be real finicky throwing braid. It's not the bend to keep fish pinned that matters (though to some extent it does) but the ability to sink multiple points at distance. Leverage is key. Shorter the lever, higher the leverage. The 'lever' is not total length, but bend length at backbone upon hookset. I'd venture a true mod/fast might prove more adept or more user friendly if nothing else.
  17. I'd say that's exactly on point. Speed typically rules in visibility, doesn't really matter the bait. In my opinion anyway.
  18. We don't have it THAT bad but it can still get bad and I do know the frustration. I'm not game for such anymore, for a variety of reasons, but the trick we found was get two portable bug zappers and place them either side. I'm talking like 5ft either side. They're cheap and those bastards will go right for it. The trick is stay in between and allow light penetration all around you. Step away and you're fair game. It's a pain since technically you can't move much, and if you do you got more to move with. But, your eyes will adapt and extra light never hurt seeing gear or landing fish or that rock you'd otherwise trip over. It's a trade off. They're noisy though, if not function then certainly when those bastards explode hitting it. Outside that, I never found anything that made a worthwhile difference. I tried bug spray, lots and lots of spray, tried harmonic mosquito control devices that theoretically they don't like, the dryer sheet thing, rubbing them on me, stuffed in and hanging out my hat, strapped around my waist if you can believe that nonsense, even went so far as to generously smear petroleum jelly on exposed skin outside my hands. All that did was stick a bunch of live pissed off bastards all over my face. Don't do that. Get two quality portable zappers and keep the batteries fresh. Won't solve everything but will help.
  19. I've been using these for half decade and never once had a failure. No break, no opening, no losing baits yanking on snags, no protrusion to catch weeds or anything of the like. Plus I much prefer the larger wire profile as compared to some clips since it ties a better knot with larger diameter lines. They're fast and failsafe. The 50 and 125 option are go to for most anything as those 175 are beefy.
  20. I agree with added difficulty through water, but that's really a small consideration. I've used both plenty and snagged points are much less a concern with rubber. Much easier to free the fish, it's not even close. They store easier, more maneuverable, won't wrap in wind. I agree bass are tough but their eyes are no more or less than any other species far as I can figure. I'm not knocking here, just shouting an opinion, but for me rubber was a game changer and I'll never go back.
  21. Call the cops, fill out on online report and submit all information in relation to purchase and communication with this bum. All of it. Kid, old man, woman, whatever. Do it. And do what you can to get your money back, all of it, at worst the incident becomes public record. You think you're the first? Maybe think there's a chance this is some misunderstanding? You are not and it is not. You're probably the 10th or worse, 20th, 30th, who knows and it doesn't matter. This bum didn't just happen to have this event fall into his/her apparent favor. It was planned. You were robbed. If this were ten or twenty bucks then I'd suggest live and learn but what you describe is a considerably significant amount of money. You'd not only be doing yourself but other anglers and quite possibly the public at large a big favor. And who says this bum only uses this tactic with anglers and only with this specific bait? I'd venture there are several if not dozens of methods surrounding multiple industry depicting a similar scam that will not stop until authorities put the foot down. Even IF you get your money back, do it anyway. There is a big legal difference for a thief who in turn tried to do the right thing vs a thief who did or does not. It is what it is and you owe this bum zero consideration. You got nothing so give nothing. You get what you give.
  22. I'm with above, fair price, durable, easy to find, consistent, fun to throw, they even ship with quality hardware. Good stuff.
