Daiwa 1016H SLP Magboost spool on Daiwa Black Label SG 7’ Swimbait rod

Daiwa 1016CC SLP Magboost spool on Daiwa Rebellion 7’11 Swimbait rod

Black Label is what Daiwa calls a slow taper and I absolutely love this rod. Rated to 5 plus ounces and is unbelievable. I’d never fished a taper like that but I wished I’d have found this earlier.

Just got this bad boy and so far I'm loving it! It can actually do 8oz comfortably and is versatile enough for treble and single hook baits.Shimano Expride B 8' XXH rated up to 10oz.

If I had to nitpick I wish the handle was a little longer but that's my only complaint. It's only 1" shorter than my Blackjack though so not too bad. It's currently awaiting it's permanent reel....

Very happy with the outcome of this rod. My first custom swimbait stick to my specs. It's a tribute rod to my little Yorkie Mix Frankie (he's still alive, lol), and designed to fish 2-5oz wakebaits and walk-the-dog lures for largemouth and stripers. Basically my take on the DC 796SB. Wanted to keep it simple and clean, and let the raw finish of the blank and carbon fiber seat define the piece. Though, I guess it works if you are a Raiders fan, lol.

Specs:
Blank - NFC Neo Xray 808-1, cut down to make 7'10" total length
Guides - Alps TIMXN 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 6, 6, 6 and size 7 SiC tip-top (wanted the slightly larger tip for braid to leader knots)
Reel seat - Matagi by Fuji TCS size 17 in gloss black, plus Fuji Back Stop lock nut
Handle - EFX soft-touch carbon full handle 14.5" with Alps adjustable weighted butt

I have a Zillion HD 1520SH, but this Z200SH looks gorgeous with it.

Big shout-out to David Bixler at DBIX Custom Rods for the build. Stellar guy to work with. Highly recommend if you are in the CA Bay Area and are looking for a custom build, or quality repair on your rods.

Special shout-out to @jthod and @ikaika from this group for sharing some of your tips including guide selection and spiral wrapping.

I can't wait for clearer skies to get out on the water.

Looks clean man, report back on how the blank performs when we get a break in this weather eventually!

I kept holding off on upgrading gear because I knew if I had one I'd want more. Beginning of last year I got my first LDC. And here I am now with 4, with 2 more reels. A conquest 301 and my first antares md. This new season is gonna be different
