Little bluegill swimmer for my buddies son
Dink whisperer and 2 others reacted to Mitchduh for a topic
I've made my buddy a handful of baits now, a couple poppers and a jointed swimmer with a P-51 mustang angry plane face. His 6 year old son who loves cars, guns AND fishing saw them and got his imagination rolling and drew up lures he wanted me to make him. Made it a fast floater so when he kills it it won't sink into a snag.. Dont have too many details other than that! Did my best to recreate it with my style while staying with his drawing. Made my day seeing the video of him opening it! Thanks for reading and hope your weeks starts off on track!3 points -

The most slept on Colorway in the TK lineup, (Joythief) getting her done again. Didn’t have my scales on me, but based on LENGTH AND GIRTH, I’ll put it at a safe 6lbs, possibly a little more.3 points -

Rain/Rising Water Tips?
buzzed bait and one other reacted to FishDr for a topic
When I lived in NorCal and we had heavy rains I would start targeting the “pipes” in the delta and inlets on creeks and Berryessa. The bass and stripers would often stack on the edge of the outflow and bushwhack baits coming out. My best high water and winter rain spot was the treated water outflow from a waste water treatment plant - clearer and cleaner than the muddy river water and consistently warmer. A jig or wakebait dropped into the foaming water often got blasted.2 points -

Treble hook soft bait?
DrewManFishing reacted to SVT THUNDER for a topic
I go with my stiff rods. Same rods I throw jig hook and soft swimbaits rigged weedless on. I pretty much drop the hammer and get them in without any issues. Ironically, I’ve seldom bent a single treble on a line through bait with a broomstick. Yet I can’t count the times in my life I’ve had bass bend the trebles on deep crankbaits using a soft cranking rod.1 point -

In my waters the fish always get super shallow when the water rises. Then again I fish in cencal in a lot of river connected ponds which aren’t like the lakes in nor cal. In the past I just fish with whatever I normally would, often something either very finesse or quite loud based on conditions, and target much shallower water by structure. I’m pretty sure that the lakes around here have the same thing happen though, so lakes that you have would probably have similar situations.1 point

3rd Place in the Swimbait Universe Gathering Tournament
prizmshallow reacted to buzzed bait for a topic
Back from the Swimbait Universe Gathering in Virginia, where I had to defend my title from last year in the swimbait only tournament on the Chickahominy… last year was miserable all day in the rain and I skunked up until I caught the winning fish on a 3:16 baby wake with just 15 minutes to go within sight of the ramp! Came back this year and pre-fished ALL DAY on Friday and only caught one dink. Fished all day Sunday during the tournament with only a dink to show on the Toxic Wake n Crank. Then it poured for a few minutes and as soon as it stopped I caught a 3-9 on the 3:16 baby wake and put it in the livewell. Moved out from the grass creek and into the cypress/pads where I stuck a 5-13 on the baby wake with only 12 minutes to go until the weigh in! Ended up taking 3rd out of 96 anglers and I’m honestly ecstatic with that follow up…. Surreal how it played out, but a long couple days of fishing was quickly turned around with just a couple fish!!1 point -

I’ll never buy direct from him again. I knew better because this is the way most bait makers are these days. I paid for a crank 1 months and two days ago. This bait was “in stock”. Doesn’t that mean that the bait is ready to ship? Since when does it mean that we still have to assemble and test it??? But that’s not even the killer here….yes, a tree fell on the shop. Yes, he had other things going on. But yet again…..add him to the list of makers who spent time and effort making a new bait for a show instead of getting people who have already ordered taken care of. And again….how is a bait in stock if you don’t even have the parts to make it??1 point -

Balam goes to Cedros Island MX
kookfarmer reacted to Fishstix024 for a topic
Just got back from an Epic 6 day trip to Cedros Island in Baja MX. We had really good fishing on Yellowtail, Calicos and some White Seabass. Most of our fish came on surface irons and long rods. (west coast thing). But, I did pack a few hard baits and they all produced. I got a few calico bass on the Toxic WNC salt version and Triple Trout Salt version, but nothing picture worthy. The Balam on the other hand was killing em! We had doubles on the Calicos and my friend got a solid Yellowtail on the 300, with the fish eating right at the boat. For all you Calico nuts, the fishing was as good as advertised. We didn't really target them too much. But, the on drift we really did, we caught 50-60 fish in 30 mins or so. (3 guys casting). The panga captain said it's not uncommon to have 300-400 fish days. An Amazing trip and I can't wait to do it again next year.1 point -
Balam goes to Cedros Island MX

We got lucky and got on teh WSB the last afternoon. We left the YT biting and went to a high spot in 70ft of water. The capt said maybe big YT, BSB or WSB. We had a tank full of macks and dines, we hadn't touch all day, so we dropped a couple down on dropper loops. The first drop we tripled up on WSB, two on bait and one on colt sniper jig. We ended up going 5-10 on 10-20lb grade WSB. Others in our group got some smaller BSB up to 40lb on live bait. SHeephead up to 15lbs on chunk macks and bonita. We made a few drift each morning for butts with swimmers and stickbaits. We never got touched. But, it was a full moon and I didn't like the big tides. I took 4X too much tackle. I took pounds of bigger hammers and MCs. I took a dozen surface irons and 6-8 yo-yo. What you really need: JRI-4, Tady45 and DW-1 in blue/white and mint. Colt Sniper jigs 80-130g, shiny colors. SP minnow lazer minnow color, the small size. Big hammer Calico Hunter swimmers on 2oz heads. They hit the hard baits OK... I wish I had brought a 250....1 point -
Balam goes to Cedros Island MX
kookfarmer reacted to Fishstix024 for a topic
We fished out the Cedros Outdoor Adventure lodge. 4.5 days of panga fishing. The MX gov. closed fishing to all vessels over 30ft, maybe 6-7 yrs ago. So, now only the local pangas have access to the entire fishery. I fished there 10+ yrs ago on the Royal Polaris and have wanted to go back ever since. During the pandemic the island was completely closed off last year. So fishing was even better this year... We mainly targeted the YT. But, couldn't keep the bonita and calicos off the surface iron for most of the days. I'd say at least 30+ bonita and 50+ calicos each day as bycatch.1 point -
I add lead tape to the belly of the bait to get it to sink a bit. I use various retrieves. - burn and pause. - slow steady retrieve to get it to glide back and forth - with an occasional pause. - slow retrieve with a few twitches of the reel handle. - slow retrieve with an occasional sweep of the rod - like a fleeing bait fish.1 point
