Nolan Aker
I'm new here and wanted to know if anybody on here uses muskie baits for big bass or caught muskie using swim baits. Also, do people on here care about muskie or northern pike, or is it strictly bass around here?
bigpoppabass
Overall most musky baits r meant to be fished way too fast for bass. There r some exceptions. Try Joe buchers for sm (his plopper has caught giant sm by chance), mepps giant killers for lm, and giant suicks jbs. I am also a fan of hi fin products but honestly Lloyd changed his product line before retiring and somebody has taken it over, Google hi fin creeper check images to learn how Japanese imported and repainted em they r so good...I would suggest you read some musky books instead. Because they were written before advanced electronics, they focus on bait design discussion. Check out Steve heitings earlier book on amazon. it is a time capsule imo....too many authors Siemental, Murphy etc focus too much on structure rather than lure features. Joe bucher has an excellent crank bait book too. If u r aware of features u can tweak baits. Willluvstafish
I can't speak for others but I have no problem catching other species. I'm after bass always but never turn my nose up at a fighting fish. basskickinrednick, Jacob.Brown1221, swimbaitman and 3 others
BigBaitStripers
So I will start out by saying I do work for Savage Gear but our line thru trout has been pretty deadly on big musky and largies. I have a photo of me trying not to laugh as I take a photo of a largie that hit a 10 inch line thru rigged on 150 pound 7-strand wire. Guess that fish wasn't line shy. kennebecstripers
Up in Maine I throw a lot of size 5 Mepps and have caught plenty of smallmouth on them - usually burning them in works best as the water is on the murkier side (Kennebec River) so I think the vibrations caused by the large blade draws them in. On the flipside I have seen pike follow glide baits in but I have never seen one caught on them. Sounds like a new goal for this fall. swimbaitman

I've been tossing striper lures for largemouth before the swimbait craze kicked in. If they are hungry they will eat....

waynem
Too many fisherman focus too much on lure features rather than structure... I totally agree with Speedbead on this. Give a good angler crappy lures and he will run rings around a crappy angler with great lures. bigpoppabass
I have a decent musky lure collection, and unfortunately u r buying many of the same baits to find that magic one. This is especially true of wooden baits.
bigpoppabass
Too many fisherman focus too much on lure features rather than structure... I focus on it all but like tweaking baits that for some reason just don't work. I have about a 1% success rate. Lol. That is why I don't like paying full retail on black market or putting my losers there. Many bass baits also have variation.
Jschulz11
A lot of discussion on the flipside section. Probably your best bet to find out info for musky baits to use for bass
nwkurt
Too many fisherman focus too much on lure features rather than structure... after spending the last couple years fly fishing for musky I can't agree with this more.
