Decided to go try for pike/walleye one more time for the year. Fished this whole stretch of river for 3 hours before sunset with an 8" magdraft and 7" magslowl without a sniff. It was beautiful as the sun went down though as the valley filled with fog.

The second it got dark I got smashed by a solid walleye. Took my pics and let it go.

Made a few casts and hooked up on another walleye.

Casted around a bit more and left. Really liking this whole walleye thing, hoping to find some bigger fish soon. Couldn't have asked for a better way to end the year, especially since this is the latest in the year that I have ever caught fish

Night time is the right time. Well done. Those Megabass softies have treated you well.

Those baits have become my go to for just about anything, if I'm going fishing I have a magdraft or magslowl tied on

Some great catches and beautiful pics.

Silly as it may sound, I’ve got walleye fishing on my bucket list. Something about them intrigued me. Don’t have any here in Central NJ to target.

awesome stuff man, we have a pond here thats stocked with walleye and im to connect with one night

what size/color on the magdrafts/magslow do you like?

Before this week I had never caught one myself. I have fished a ton in this spot with an 8" magdraft and never had an eye eat it but as soon as I brought out the 6" magdraft and 7" magslowl I've had success. Of course I am going to try and force feed them the 8" draft or 9" slowl looking for my 30"er. As far as color goes I will always go with ketabasu with the slowl, that color is such a killee for me, looks exactly like a fallfish, which I believe to be the top forage in the river. As far as the magdraft I caught these on biwako shad, based on my limited experience it doesn't seem that color matters much as these two are so different. I think that as with anything in the swimbait game just pick a color you are confident enough in to commit to. I always go natural myself

Very nice fish man. I noticed you were using a magdraft. Were you using it shallow near the surface, or were you allowing it to sink? Walleyes do take swimbaits off the surface, but more often they take them somewhat below it. Happy you were able to get on the water so late. My boat was getting repaired so I missed out on some TOTW. Great job man. And I agree with you, Walleyes on swimbaits is just so much fun. Most oldtimers would sniff at this new approach, but I for one am fully on board changing things up. Both Doug Stange and Gord Pyzer have advocated for big 5-6" swimbaits (paddeltails) and I decided to use this method exclusively for the last two years. So keep it up man.

I was fishing the bait in less than 5' of water when both of these fish ate, the bait was probably 2ish feet under the surface. Once the sun sets I have noticed that the walleye push up shallow and feed looking up. Granted I have skunked my past 3 trips after this but based on the fish I have caught that's my guess
