Todd (@BrownSteele86) was targeting a dock up in the shallows with his Burrito Gill when he felt a a tug, swung, and snapped off. After searching about fifteen minutes he decided to move on. Later after the sun had set he decided to return back to the area where he had lost his bait. He tied on his new Toxic Baits x SU Wade Hoggs and waked it adjacent to the dock he had visited 3 hours prior. Slurp. After a quick battle Todd looked into his net in disbelief. Not only had he landed a nice largemouth on his new bait, he found the thief that stole his Burrito Gill and reclaimed it. I think it’s safe to say Todd has found his new lucky bait. Gentlemen, I was one of the buyers that had some issues with tracking information this week with a bait from Jared. Jared has stayed in constant contact with me since last Wednesday about the tracking information not updating. He also offered to refund my money before the bait arrived if I felt more comfortable doing that. I declined his offer and asked that if the bait not make it by today, he refund my money today. The tracking information updated after our conversation earlier this week, and the bait has now arrived in Florida, in great condition. Regardless of whatever has happened in the past, I would buy from Jared again. I got a great bait at what I consider a good price. Thanks again, Jared. -JD6 points

Dobyns Fury 795 or Okuma Guide Select "a" Series Swimbait Rod?
AverageJoe and one other reacted to Nick S. for a topic
I think the Dobyns 806 is a more versatile rod. I may not load up as well as the 795 on some of the smaller baits but it is much easier to throw baits that are lighter than the rod is rated for than it is to throw Baits that are too heavy.2 points -

Price jackers...what to think?
Steadybassin reacted to peter_the_fox for a topic
Price jacking on brand new baits (seems to be limited release baits) seems to be happening alot and I'm not sure how to feel about it. So...I see this mostly with battles shads and now some citizens from WCZ but it seems to effect every bait. I mean on one hand - if guys will pay then go for it. But if guys miss a release do they deserve to have to pay more? I'm not sure how I feel about it. Yall?1 point -

That is one bait I will never part with, for sure. The Wade Hoggs has been a top producer for me the past two seasons and the SU hoggs is an excellent morning/evening/nighttime color for wakes... that is certainly a night I won’t forget! I had a weird feeling I would see the burrito again but I didn’t expect it to be in that way. Never give up!!!1 point -

Dobyns Fury 795 or Okuma Guide Select "a" Series Swimbait Rod?
swim16 reacted to danthefisherman for a topic
Agreed...I have experience with both and the GS loads WAY more on a cast than the 795. Don't expect either to handle the whole 1-5oz. In my opinion, both are in their prime throwing anything up to 3oz, and even then they both handle it very differently. If you can get your hands on one at a tackle shop that would be ideal as it all comes down on how you like to fish and use your rod. To me, the parabolic blank of the Guide Select feels like a limp noodle compared to the faster taper of the 795, but again that's just me. The Cardiff 300 is a solid reel. It's pretty slow retrieve wise and the drag isn't much to boast about, but mine hasn't failed me yet and I got it used for like $40. I love mine and wouldn't hesitate to grab another. If budget is a concern and you're still looking to upsize baits eventually, I'd strongly suggest that you look into the Fury 806. I love my 795, but there are many times that I've wished the 806 was available when I first started out. I'm saving up now and waiting for the black Friday sales to come around to grab one. Hope this helps! Dan1 point -

Dobyns Fury 795 or Okuma Guide Select "a" Series Swimbait Rod?
swim16 reacted to NEbucketmouth19 for a topic
I bought the 795 to replace my guide select heavy. I throw 9" slammers and S-waver 200 on the 795 without issue. I wouldn't throw jig hook baits with it, and I wouldn't get too close to it's 5oz rating. But I have to disagree with some of the other guys, IMO the rod rating on the Fury is WAAAAAY more accurate than that model of the guide select. I replaced my guide select because it felt like it started to load differently even going a feather's weight over 3oz. The Fury loads much better IMO. I currently have a Tatula HD200 on it but a Cardiff should work fine. If you plan to do most of your fishing at the upper rating (3+ oz) then the 806 will be a better choice. But if it's primarily going to be for stuff like bullshads, hardgills, 7" or 9" slammers I'd go 795.1 point -
Dobyns Fury 795 or Okuma Guide Select "a" Series Swimbait Rod?
BigBaitBassin reacted to Loganodum38 for a topic
I prefer Dobyns over okuma although if you plan on throwing 5oz baits, Dobyns overrates their lure weight capacities for their rods, i personally don’t throw anything over 3 oz on the 795. Great rod just not a true rating1 point -
Dobyns Fury 795 or Okuma Guide Select "a" Series Swimbait Rod?
cptshocker reacted to Seahaecker for a topic
I have the Okuma it was the first rod I bought to use for swimbaits and I have always loved it. I am pretty hard on my things I think of them as tools and put them to the full use and this rod has stood the test. anytime I'm not using the boat and walking the bank I take it with me. I just throw it in the truck and headed off to where ever I am fishing. I have also heard good things about the Dobyns and I'm sure people will lean towards that more I just have never used one so my opinion is pretty biased ha. You basically cant go wrong with either.1 point -

Treble hook direction on Hardbaits
bigpoppabass reacted to MA Frog Man for a topic
The problem with 2 hook points exposed is that you're dividing you're hookset power in half because those two points are working against each other. Ie why guys prefer a parabolic rod with trebled. Too keep pressure on at all times because 2 or 3 points are all working against each other. A lot of guys going from BB rig back to single hook. There's a lot of variables in line/rod/reel setup that factor in too though.1 point -

bought a few baits from jared myself and would do it again. as with anyone, i ALWAYS pay the fees, nothing personal, i just do the same with everyone and have never had an issue! i've bought a couple baits from jared on a couple occasions, including one of the delta grape SU wade hoggs, which he sold to me at retail, which is also another sign of a standup dude in my opinion.1 point -

People make mistakes. Would you rather see Jared keep that old rep or try to build a new one? He has done good high dollar transactions with me many times.. He is doing his best to show he doesn't want to be associated with the old him, he has changed it seems. I have had issues in the past where tracking won't show right away. I normally just ship it form the PO not make a label.1 point -

I can’t believe this crap. One of the most solid dudes I’ve dealt with on here... and some people in here now I certainly won’t ever deal with. OP flames someone, unnecessarily, and then someone else throws old gas on the fire. When this all works out in the end, and you see he did everything he said, I doubt you have the decency to form an official apology.1 point -

Its fine. I cant go backwards. I am here now. If you think I have ever done you wrong, anyone on here, please contact me and we can work it out. I was accused of lots of things, I know whats accurate and whats not. Pasting a bunch of threads is not proof, its just people saying things. I am trying very hard to be a positive member here. I dont flip, I give fair prices on baits I post, no "make me an offer". I post picture of catches. In fact a month or so ago I sent free baits to a kid that has baits stolen, publicly on here. But we dont talk about that. http://swimbaitunderground.com/forums/index.php?/topic/48800-baits-stolen/&tab=comments#comment-3695681 point -
Just started fishing a lot again due to college being all year and lost a fish probably around the same size If not bigger a few casts before I stuck this one. Completely nailed my hud. Fun catch1 point

I would suggest not calling someone out unless you are the one 'not receiving' tracking or the bait. Let us hear from those who purchased with proof he hasn't been in constant contact. And really, before the delivery date you blast the guy? Come on man.1 point

After a few days of fishing in big pike waters, where I was terrified to throw this marvelous piece of wood... I got out this morning to fish the lake I grew up on. One of the first things I did when I signed up at SU was put my name on the list for this bait. I hit the water at Liberty Lake early, and promptly missed a big blowup on about the fourth cast. Kept working around the lake, and on a cast in between a few docks, I got blasted. Just under 3... and it felt sooooo good! Best slammer fish for me. Few more casts, and I was cranking it back to the boat fast, when fish two hit like a train. Also right at 3. Didnt catch any more slammer fish, but the Little Piggy Kicker Gill did some work in between! I had the best time, and wish I could keep it forever... it truly is a sight to behold. It’s headed to the next guy tomorrow, and I hope the fun continues for everyone on the list! So happy to have added a few teeth marks to this historical hunk of wood and hardware! Thanks SU!1 point
