dqb and 10 others reacted to Christiantaj for a topic
First 10 steps into bank fishing one of my favorite ponds I spotted this giant. Set up my phone and made 1 cast with the flash carp 175, got the cast to catch and secured my new pb. Scale jumped from back and forth from 10lb10oz-10lb8oz so just called it 10lb8oz. IT WAS EPIC, you can check the vid on my ig christiantaj I may post it here11 points -

Yesterday I started my drive home from south Florida back to Pennsylvania, and after a few hours of driving I pulled into a rest stop somewhere east of Orlando. I saw a nice looking pond across the street and figured what the heck I’ll give it one last shot at catching a Florida bass, well on my 5th cast a monster comes up and destroys the sly gill 15feet away from me. After a quick fight I got her on the bank and knew right away she was around 6 and maybe my new pb! She went 6lbs 4oz, I was by myself so the pictures weren’t great but I’ll remember that fish for the rest of my life. Luck was on my side and I just happened to stop in the right place at the right time. I fished for another hour without any more bites or any follows, made it home safe and sound, I am certainly going to miss Florida but can’t wait to go back next year, in the meantime I’ll be back to throwing big baits in my home waters. Stay safe out there everyone and thanks for the read!9 points

Possible fishing ban in california
tblando and 2 others reacted to Willluvstafish for a topic
This is absolutely crazy. I don't think government is taking mental health into consideration whatsoever. I fully support and practice distancing, safety and not spreading the virus around. But some people, myself included are already having a difficult time as it is and NEED the mental break that fishing provides so long as it's done while social distancing. This would be a terrible mistake if it passes.3 points -
Time to find a new go-to lake!
danthefisherman and 2 others reacted to Amistoad for a topic
My local lake has been kicking out some nice bass this year, but nothing over about 4 lbs. but I’m lazy and know I can at least catch numbers if not size. That changed yesterday. Couldn’t get anything going on wakes or glides and finally resorted to throwing a plastic worm just to feel a tug. Most fish were 15-18”, but a couple on the worm were the same size as the 10” wakebait I was throwing in the morning. To top it off, as I was leaving, the lady at the entrance station told me the lake will be closed until further notice. So...time to get off my butt and explore some new lakes that are still open! Not many, but one nearby has some 10+ fish caught every year. This could be a blessing in disguise! Keep on grinding out there and be safe!3 points -

Teying to use what I have extra laying around first. I’ll probably start throwing the chronarch 200e6 for now. Trying to not spend as much money but this site definitely doesn’t help at all!! Haha I thought bass fishing was an expensive hobby already . The swimbait world takes that to a whole new level!3 points -

Which braid for Softbaits??
NEbucketmouth19 and one other reacted to dheath2 for a topic
65# power pro to a shock leader or copolymer is a great option. Connect with blood knot or alberto. Tacticalbassin has some insightful vids into the topic including how to not cast off (not using too light of braid because braid cuts braid in lighter sizes).2 points -
Which braid for Softbaits??
brootalititties and one other reacted to NEbucketmouth19 for a topic
I've been running 65lb power pro to a 25lb leader. No issue and no breakoffs or lost baits. Definitely head the advice to compensate a little with the rod though. I'm using a Muse Black HF and it's basically an oversized frog rod it's so stout. Which mean when I have that ocassionally phantom bite and set the hook into a log.... Some part of ME is usually the weakest link in the whole equation and I'm feeling it the rest of the day.2 points -

1.Alot of great braid out there so it is tough to get a big upside using one brand over another. The number of braids used is prob the best indicator of quality tho. Fused stuff has come a long way but I don't trust it having have had several loud snap offs when it first came out. 2. Braid to leader connection works. They call it a shock leader too. The key tho is you want a flexible rod -a fiberglass blend or mod action is best. Otherwise you can overpower the braid getting long line releases. Braid is super strong stuff.2 points -

I fish 50lb on all my set ups. It’s more than enough for surfcasting in the rocks for 40lb stripers it’s plenty of lmb imho. i only fish two kinds. Regular power pro and power pro super slick. some reels seem to work better with the super slick vs regular and vice versa. those are the two I trust and haven’t had a reason to try anything else (when I had tried other braids. I’ve gone back to power pro)2 points

After a cold front came through and dropped Daytime temperatures about 35 degrees yesterday, today was warmer and overcast. Time to hit my local lake and wake up some bass. Fortunately, the lake is still open. No huge fish, but a bunch of 16-21” bass happy to attack the Wake Jr on a deadsticking or slow twitch retrieve. Met another SU member, Ryan (I think) from San Marcos and kept a good social distance. Good to see another maniac throwing the big stuff here in my corner of the world! Hope you nailed some on your Pizz baits! I’ll keep trying to find those big, hungry lady bass. Until next time, stay safe, stay healthy, and keep grinding!2 points

Which braid for Softbaits??
BayAreaAngler reacted to Bassmann86 for a topic
My personal opinion I wouldn’t run braid to leader. That is just asking for trouble and lost baits. I would stick with a good Fluorocarbon or Copoly but if you do go the braid route I would look into Sunline FX2 60-80lbs with a 25lbs Sunline FC100 shock leader.1 point -
New build..."Bravo Shad" Need Help!
Amistoad reacted to JCswimbaits for a topic
Looks like you have a good start. I personally thinks if you are planning on molding several times you should fill the joint and mold a full blank first, this will allow you to make a multi joint bait and play around with joint placement, and do scales later. What I have found is a bait without scales opens up to have some incredible paint schemes and a bait with scales requires less of a aptitude for a detailed paint scheme. If you mold the bait whole with no joint you have more options. Just my two cents.1 point -

Swimbait rod blanks

Pretty sure a lot of them are Phenix, but More than likely the bigger builders are getting custom blanks made for them, vs using the standard offerings that you or I can buy. I know the 316 rods are custom Phenix blanks too.1 point -

What makes the “perfect” big bass lake?
Eric Peterson reacted to Mossypumpkin for a topic
I think this is an awesome topic for discussion. I wouldn’t say I look for any specific features of any body of water, though. So here, a 7lber is a huge fish. I’ve caught 7lbers from tiny, shallow bodies, mid sized/mid depth bodies, and big, deep lakes. I think fish are going to adapt to grow large with what they have to work with. If there is little or no cover, they’ll use structure. This is seen in a lot of the west/southwest, featureless lakes. Here in the far northeast, we really don’t have waters that don’t have a lot of feed. These places are stuffed full with food, so that’s not really a concern. That all being said, what I typically look for is what I’ve found while fishing over several trips to a body of water. If I hit a new spot, I’ll try to fish it at least 3-4 times before making a call. We have endless numbers of places to fish, so I’m not going to stay hung up on one spot and try to force a big fish bite. If I fish a water a couple times and have found some 2-3lbers, it’s worth trying a couple more times. If I find 3-4lbers in good numbers, that tells me there’s some 5s. But if I’m only getting steady 2-3lb fish and a 4 is hard to come by, those are probably the very upper range of the size fish in the water. If I can catch 4-5+ lbers quickly in a water, I’m convinced there’s plenty more. You didn’t go to a new spot and immediately the biggest fish in the body. The biggest of fish in a water are going to take time to find. That’s my two cents1 point
