Dumbest Mistake

Night fishing in a bunch of flooded timber... no moon and can’t see shiii. The trees are all 20+ feet tall and somehow I managed to cast my wakebait over one of the tallest branches. Obviously couldn’t see it but could feel that the line was extremely high. Bait hit the water, fish eats it and I Start cranking out of instinct. The fish rises up higher and higher eventually getting stuck 20’ up in the tree. I sat there for a solid 2 minutes gathering my thoughts and I could not think of a plan. I started shaking the bait and eventually the fish and bait both popped free. Moral of the story is don’t be stupid like me5 points -

I fish a lot of electric only lakes and spend a lot of time getting to specific spots. Way to often, I snag whatever structure I am fishing within the first few casts and blow the spot. Story of my life.3 points -
Good to hear but I'd like to add my two cents and opinion on communication and deals here on the forum. I didn't build my reputation on this site by not providing excellent turn around time and good communication to those I trade with and sell to. I'm just as busy as anyone else most days but that doesn't excuse me from communicating with someone I've made an agreement with. I owe it to them to keep them informed about the status of the shipment. If I'm not going to be or might not be in touch for a day I set those expectations up front. That rarely happens if ever for me so purely hypothetical. I have had times when I can't ship the next day so I will let that person know up front if a delay will take place and when they can expect tracking. Its not that hard guys and it doesn't take much of your time. Will there be exceptions? Sure, but should be rare. Most everyone I've dealt with here has been great so I'm not pointing the finger at anyone. I'm just laying out what has been successful for me. It takes a little effort but very little. Take some pride in being excellent and step up your game guys. Keep in mind what its like to be on the other end waiting and ask yourself if that's a feeling you like. Take care of others and it will come back to you. *mic drop*3 points

I have been lucky enough to do well on glides and soft swimbaits but have really been trying to catch one off the 8 inch Bull Shad. Set up used was 7 11 Megabass Orochi with Shimano tranx 400, 20 pound seagur fluorocarbon. Hit it like a freight train! I have been fishing conventional tackle for years and years and recently got into the swimbait game out here in NC and it has been a blast3 points -

Hook battle! Owner Beast vs Trokar Lazer Mag

I don’t like the cutting points- they go through easier but seem to cut a slit and come out easier. I also think they cut plastic up. Super sharp, I just prefer the round points.2 points -

My suggestion would be. If Eric told you it was an older wake, but it looks like it has been painted/wrapped with extra clear coat so maybe due to the weight of the coating...in my opinion it would be a wake that cranks down about a foot and a half. Not saying anything about for BM post but you dont want to have someone trade or buy it and then not be happy because the bait can not do what they think it can. Maybe ask the person you got the back from they may also know. Looking at the background of the pictures he is a good guy and will must likely answer the question.2 points -
Hook battle! Owner Beast vs Trokar Lazer Mag

Owner beast Hook for me, simply due to the fact Mike built his molds around that hook. Tried and true. I’m sure they both have their pros and cons, easily can be modified to fish to your liking. Add weighted tape, bend the hook point for better hook sets etc...2 points -

Headed out this morning at 4 am to try to work up a topwater bite with only one dink to show for it. Tied up the 8 inch hudd and started working the bank. Caught my first one by accident, 2~ lbs thinking I was caught in grass. Slowly working my way towards a deep rock point. Bomb the hudd out and mess on my phone for a minute, completely ready to call it a day, I make one handle turn and BOOM. I swing, grind her to the boat, go to flip her and my rod snaps (yea I know it was stupid but I panicked) reach down and grab her she was pinned great and wasn’t going anywhere. Beyond stoked this fish, this spring has kicked my ass so far, this being my first fish over 3 pounds lol. Put her in the well let her breath and took my measurement and sent her off. 8.6 pounds 23.75 in length x 17 inch girth1 point

Snake baits...anyone fish them?
dqb reacted to Loganodum38 for a topic
I know ABT makes one, slammer has his take on a snake if you want to call it that, and obviously savage gear which I have had decent luck on. Nothing big on them for some reason compared to other wakes. Seems for wakebaits rats produce the largest fish for me. Always had better luck with snakes in river systems, around here there’s a lot of black water with cypress trees everywhere, cast em as far back as you can and creep me out. But I’m not sure how helpful that will be to you considering your in AZ ( I think). When I go down to Florida I have decent success with them considering everything around is pads/grass. The only issue I have with them is that i feel I am hindering the size I catch when I fish them over say a rat or bluegill wake etc. biggest I’ve ever got on one was maybe 4 pounds but it’s a good numbers bait, whereas other wakes I’ll catch a 6,7,8+. Definitely a fun bait tho, my favorite SG snake was the 12” black. If you search on youtube snake lure, there’s like 10 or 15 year old videos of soft snakes they were amazing, think they were called bog baits snake or something along those lines don’t think they’re made anymore. Also, it’s on the smaller side, but the Mann’s hard nose snake (softbaits) is also a pretty decent bait, fish it just like a frog.1 point -

3rd Gen shad underway Blunt Customs
DoomDiver reacted to Socalswimbait for a topic
Got my 3rd gen shad molded. Poured a few and started to balance a glide version. Trying to make it more symmetrical on both sides and I added lip and eyebrow detail to this one. Got this guy swimming decent but still gotta fine tune. On the flip side. I’m trying to balance my new trout and carp set ups. I’ve made these baits for years. But updated the head detail on trout. And making joints a different setup to achieve and certain type of swim. But they are pissing me off. Too much body roll at slow speeds. Both swim great at faster retrieves. I hate when baits do that. That’s my number one headache with balancing. Sometimes I hate bait making. Lol pics are trout and carp, all 3 gens of shad and swim vid of shad. IMG_1368.MOV1 point -

The bait is tuned so well the hinges dance with one another rather than bowing out. And the bait is a true slow sink1 point

What durometer are you guys using for tails and fins
troutbum24 reacted to danthefisherman for a topic
Welcome back, Matt. Currently running 50A urethane fir my glides and love it, but I also prefer softer tails. When you get up in the 70A range the material becomes pretty stiff/board-like. Try contacting your supplier to see if they can send you samples of each hardness.1 point
