  1. Hey all, Does anybody use the evergreen nd180 wooden wakebait? I've seen them come and go on twarehouse but no reviews have been posted there. Some introduction videos on yt describe them as wooden wakebaits then say that only the tail is wood and that the rest of the bait is plastic. Does anybody have experience with this bait and evergreen? Are they quality? Thanks!
  2. Couple weeks ago I got on an overnight Spro rat bite at a local pond; for a week the conditions were rainy, windy, pond was chocolatey and blown out. This week though, it's been stagnant and calm, an off-and-on breeze throughout the day, almost glass-still water at night. I decided to switch it up and send the Boogie Back--it's smaller and a bit quieter than the rat, which I thought would be better for these new conditions. Man it didn't disappoint; caught a ton of fish, nothing big, but the action was amazing. These were the only two keepers of the session, but I missed a couple butthole-puckering blowups that might've been monsters. Topwater bite is ON!
  3. 20210609_061701_1.mp4 VID_48001226_055808_315.mp4 Was out with my buddy today, just finally updated my personal baits to the models I sell, been using beta rats for the most part. 2+hours and no bites.. was feeling beaten and wanted to switch to the 1 piece but stuck it out and it paid off. Love getting goose water in my mouth, yuck.
  4. Welp hopefully I’ll get some free time soon to finish sanding and paint. For the first bait I’ve ever made I’m not too upset about how it turned out. Still have to seal the lead holes and do a lot more fine sanding but I like it. The action I want is a extremely low float and to be able to crank it a little deeper if I want so I might still add a lip depending on the action when I test swim it. Either way I’m gonna play with it and use it as a learning experience. A fish would be a great bonus though. Also FEEDBACK IS SO WELCOME! Give me some constructive criticism. I’m here to learn
  5. Some fish I’ve gotten recently on the wake carp

    New pb!!!

My new pb coming in at 22.25 inches and 6 lbs 7 oz on the GO2 Meanie by Sean Caron paired on the Revelation XH by Justin Wesseling. Couldn’t have done it without @chefchris being generous enough to loan me the bait!
  9. You know those days where you're fishing at night and you think your cast is aimed correctly? Then you hear the loud ringing sound of a metal rail. Then you quickly retie for the next cast, then hear the thud of a concrete wall. Nooooo!!!! It's ok though. I seized this opportunity to try out some things. I always wanted a larger bill on my chartreuse wake, so I made that happen. Now I have a chance to test out some circuit board bills too! I did clean up the epoxy around the base quite a bit. When the epoxy cures, I will be drilling through the wood and circuit board and pinning them in place with 2 steel twist wires for some extra support with a little epoxy in the hole to fill up the gaps.
  10. After a cold front came through and dropped Daytime temperatures about 35 degrees yesterday, today was warmer and overcast. Time to hit my local lake and wake up some bass. Fortunately, the lake is still open. No huge fish, but a bunch of 16-21” bass happy to attack the Wake Jr on a deadsticking or slow twitch retrieve. Met another SU member, Ryan (I think) from San Marcos and kept a good social distance. Good to see another maniac throwing the big stuff here in my corner of the world! Hope you nailed some on your Pizz baits! I’ll keep trying to find those big, hungry lady bass. Until next time, stay safe, stay healthy, and keep grinding!
  11. As promised here's the cast to catch video of my second largest bass ever, caught yesterday on one of my own wake baits. You can see some of my baits and pictures of fish caught on them on Instagram @caetanoswimbaits . The baits look a lot like a slammer, because I make them out of a wood dowel, but I make the tail by cutting it out of a silicone sheet. Because of that it's a little stiffer, but more durable. In my next batch I'll try to make the nose a little bit more pointed. I'm trying not to make a slammer copy, but it's not easy. I'm thinking about making some rats too...
  12. Last month I caught my new PB, here in Portugal, at 6.24lb and 22.2" long. Today I caught my second largest bass ever! 5.64lb and 20" long! And I caught it on one of the wakebaits I make: a Caetano Swimbaits Wake. It's 6.9" long. I'll post some pictures now and maybe tomorrow I'll post the cast to catch video. Just have to edit the video first.
  13. Looking to trade this custom painted WSB Rat 175 (plus cash as needed) for a Pizz Riot Crank, a Shadlittle, a Shadley, or a Lanciotti Psycho Trout in Perch. Painted by Phil Jarog of Get Bit Customs, and also has a custom tail from Alec Wieker. Might be open to other trades so PM me your offers. New to the underground, but have guys in the Swimbait Universe FB group who can vouch for me. Thanks!
  14. So I’m really intrigued with the design of the rago soft tool. I think I can redesign the internal harness into a way that it actually become a floating version or even potentially suspending. Hopefully I’ll have some drawings and carvings up here in the next week or two so stay tuned and please share any opinions or tips!
  15. So decided to make a “phat pats” clone type bait instead of paying $300 for one. made from ayc, double heat epoxy sealed, all magnum ss screw eyes, hand painted 12mm eyes, rasco split rings, owner st41 hooks, DOA tail, and 4 coats of auto clear. Body was 8.5” before cutting the V joints and tail, overall is like 9.5”. Weighs 3.5oz rigged. Swims on top at all speeds, excels on a slow/medium retrieve, will swim down about 6-10” on a long cast and faster retrieve to get it down. Had a great squeak and knock to it. Tuned it on Friday in calm and choppy conditions. Just needed a slight line tie tweak. Took it out Saturday at 5am-10am. First cast of the morning, a 2.5lber smoked it about 10 cranks in. Got a dink and 3lb 2oz to finish the short day. Will load a swim video later. Thanks for checking and any questions/comments always welcomed. -Chef 04A983ED-CD33-41D6-86E0-F5BE9CB1C125.MOV
  16. Hey guys! I've been building these two piece waking rats for a while now, and figured I'd share! They've been dubbed the "salty rat" because I live closer to saltwater striper spots and ended up doing all of the testing and tweaking on them in the salt. The 6.5" profile ended up being quite universal and has been successful in both fresh and saltwater. Here are some photos from the last batch I built. Originally I was doing these with two belly hooks, and a tail made from rabbit strips tied to a wire flag; the idea being that the rabbit strips bad a realistic appearance and feel compared to a soft plastic. Moving forward, I think I will switch to a screw lock and tail, as replacing the rabbit strip is somewhat of a pain. Here are a few catches on them so far. Some by me, some by friends. Would love any feedback or questions you guys might have!
  17. Let me know what’s for sale thanks .

  20. Hit a large river with Northeast_trev last night but the main river current was way up so we pushed up a side channel to a small pond. It was warm but overcast and a bit windy so the perfect night for topwater it was not. Casted into the opening and cranked back out. She hammered the 7" bass slammer and went 5.6 for over a pound over my last swimbait PB.
  21. Hey all I wanted to start a topic that I've been thinking about recently "The Theory of Rat's". I have heard that bass hate snakes and the more "rat" bait's I see they look more like brown or black snakes than any rat. They way they move as a bait usually slithers as well, especially the 3 part rat swimbaits. So my question is are bass confused and attacking the baits as snakes? Should we start calling them snakes instead and painting them as such? Which have you had the most success with a 2 or 3 part "rat" bait? Also does anyone have any advise on brands? I've stumbled across this company does anyone have any TrapBassBaits https://www.instagram.com/trapbassbaits/?hl=enaits/?hl=en ? Any advise is helpful. I've tried searching so if there is another thread feel free to post the link. Thanks, Zack
