  1. Hey everyone, I really enjoy reading all about your catches in this sub, especially the posts that go into detail and explain how they caught the fish. These stories really provide me with more ideas on what to test and ways I can improve my own fishing moving forward. Anyway, a few days ago, I decided to hit up a small city park lake I haven't been to in a while to get in a quick bank fishing session. This spot isn't really known for big fish and is highly pressured, so I went in fully expecting to catch some dinks. To my surprise, I ended up catching a couple of good ones! Here’s the breakdown: Setup: Megabass VKC-711XH Shimano Scorpion MD 300XGLH DRT Tiny Klash Joy Thief Lo - Stock Lip, V-Tail, G-Guard, Weighted To Suspend Weather: 50 Degree Air Temps 10 mph North Winds With Up To 15 mph Gusts Mostly Sunny Time and water conditions: Around 6pm ?? Water Temps (based on feel, guessing above 50 but below 60) - probably way off on that Water visibility - About 5 ft The Catches: The wind was blowing from the north, so I decided to start on the south bank, where the wind was blowing against it. This end is typically deeper and has more interesting structure. Another thing I noticed was the loons swimming in that area, which I took for a sign that it might be where a lot of the bait fish are holding. I figured that’s where most of the bass would be concentrated in this scenario. I started out by cranking the TK until it gained some depth, and then I would deadwalk it back with various cadences. Think jerk, jerk, pause for a few seconds, and repeat, testing various lengths of the pause, ranging anywhere from 3 to 5 seconds. I mainly focused on fan casting and paralleling any visible drop-offs or structural irregularities. I got a few small followers but no commits. Then, I saw what appeared to be some baitfish being chased near a small point about 40-50ft away. This indicated to me that the fish were probably more active and preferred something faster. So I switched up the retrieve to a faster deadwalk. Basically, a quick and erratic deadwalk by making quick quarter turns of the reel handle, with less than half a second pauses in between each reel turn, all the way back to shore. I walk over to where I had seen the movement and make a cast towards deep water, paralleling the side of the small point. I start the retrieve, and just as the TK approaches the tip of the point, I get bit Hard. I wasn't expecting it, so I barely set the hooks into it. It was a total textbook situation, from the cast angle to the retrieve, and even where the bite happened. I get her close to shore and go in to lip her, but then I end up slipping on a rock! She thrashes her head, trying to make another run, and as I quickly get up to lip her, I noticed she had T-Boned the TK! At this point, there was no way I was going to lip her bare-handed with those treble hooks swinging everywhere. So, in a last-ditch effort, I grab the line and bank her on the shore. Not the most elegant way to do things, but at least I land her. This lake isn't really known for fish bigger than 1-2 lbs, so I didn’t bother bringing my scale or measuring board. Something I really regret now, but regardless, she was definitely a good one for this lake. Nobody was around, so I snapped some quick pics and sent her back on her way. For the next catch, I reach the other side of the point and make a cast across a section that funnels into another part of the lake. There is a shallow flat on the opposite side that drops off into deep water, with what is usually a shallow hump beside it. However, due to the low water levels, the hump is currently above water. I make a cast parallel to the edge of the flat where it drops off into deep water, start the retrieve, and right as I pass the hump, I get bit again in another textbook scenario! I land her and see she must have really wanted the TK because she nearly choked it! Holding her up, I realize she's even bigger than the last one, though I have no weights or measurements to be certain. Fortunately, this time, I manage to get a random passerby to take some pictures for me. Overall, it was a pretty good session! Also made a quick sketch on the lake breakdown below.
  2. I was looking through the forums and DRT’s website and couldn’t find this. Does anyone know if the DRT Varial handle will work on a 13 fishing concept A3 reel? If so, which nut do you need to use?
  3. The title says it all! My swimbait journey started last fall with a flipping rod and a dream- had a few eats but the stiffness of that rod pulled the hooks every time. I upgraded to a Dobyn's Fury 806 and a Shimano Cardiff around Christmas-time and fished HARD. I didn't have any Hudds to drag on the bottom, so I fished glides all winter. Kept at it, skunk after skunk, knowing that getting that first fish would take time. Fast forward to today; I had just gotten a TK that I traded a Deps SK for (shoutout to Joshua if you see this; thanks bro!), and had already had two follows in hella muddy water. My buddy and I hit up a lake we had only been to once or twice before, and after about 5 minutes of casting, I watched the smaller fish eat it at my feet. AT MY FEET! After boat flipping it to the bank, I felt like a huge weight had lifted off of me. I've always said, you might not catch a fish every time you go, but sometimes, you catch a fish when you need to. I also found out today that my mom would have to start legit chemo after taking it in pill form for the last several years- it's almost like everything lined up to catch that first fish- I needed it for sure. The second fish- a bona fide 4 poundah came about 30 minutes later while I was giving the TK the ole Bill Dance (think- twitch twich PAWS) and BOOM. Smoked it. Choked it. Swallowed it whole. Learning to fish swimbaits all winter has finally paid off, and damn does it feel good. Hopefully the rest of the week will look like today, or better! Thanks to everybody on here for sharing y'alls knowledge and experiences! - appstlhd
  4. Got out to the local hotspot today for a couple hours. Caught a small fish second cast on my Biggs glide. Then went about 20mins before hooking up and dumping another fish that I think was a big crappie. About an hour later I got two small smallies and dumped one in the 3-4lb range. Made the switch to the DRT riser jack burning it along the rocks and had a decent fish come up and miss it 2nd cast. Threw it for a little bit and got discouraged and started to walk back to switch up again. I decided to cast out about 20ft and let the bait slowly wake as I walked back when it got hammered. 3.79lb old fish.
  5. I unbox my dream reel I bought on SU for a insane deal. I also show you guys how i Jerry rigged the knobs, learned to do it from a forum on SU! time codes in video so you can skip to the Jerry rig part!
  6. The spot I was fishing today had way too many weeds to work the bottom effectively. I switched it up with a 5/0 EWG and a varivas grenade weight for the cramp shad. I’ve had these baits for a long time and never went a full session just throwing them, very happy to see them produce some bites
  7. Was gonna keep this tk for show but once I saw it in person it’s fate was decided faster than sleepy joe can fall down the stairs to Air Force 1. Lip out tail mode b. Slurped off the top after some subsurface gliding and pause to let it rise. First decent fish on the Monstruo 710 and it’s quickly become one of my favorite rods. Also this older woman was gardening so I asked her if I could fish in her back yard and she said yes. I was really happy about that as people aren’t usually kind to me while fishing. 8. TK has been the ticket trough the transition for me in Maine. After struggling the past couple seasons at this time of year, it’s been rewarding putting together a pattern. The formula’s simple; find declining rock faces, rig TK to suspend, deadwalk til they can’t stand it anymore. Lost count how many fish I’ve caught the past few trips as the tiny klash will also attract smaller fish I’d usually rarely see throwing larger swims. Best two so far have been the two pictures below, 5-2 and 4-6. Hoping to run into a pig this fall, keeping the tk tied on til Maine ices over.
  9. I’m pretty new to the website so I’m not exactly sure if this is the right form to post in but I was wondering if anyone has tried putting an extra few coats of clear coat to help with hook rash? I have a can of aerosol KBS diamond clear which sprays super thin layers compared to the dip or brush on cans of kbs. I’ve read some posts about repaints and paint wraps on drt baits and people are saying it affects the action.. Not super sure how much I believe that for repaints especially if you were to strip off the old paint and put new paint without a super thick layer of clear coat? I think I could see more potential for effected action with a wrap. I haven’t fished these baits much so I could definitely be wrong! You guys will know better than me. Anyways Im thinking of spraying a few coats on my k9 to help with hook rash. If any of you have tried it or have an opinion let me know!
  10. Does anyone have any information on the latest K9 release of the West Side Bang colorway? Was that just a rare colorway or will there be more?
